Dearborn Police Apprehend Man Hiding with Gun Under Patrol Car

Officers received a tip from a 911 caller that a man broke into the police vehicle lot on Michigan Avenue.

On Sept. 7, at approximately 6:53 p.m., Dearborn Police dispatch received a 911 call from a citizen about a suspicious white male who was peering through the gate at the rear of the secured Dearborn Police Station parking lot.

The citizen advised dispatchers that the man was carrying an unknown object that he removed from a vehicle. The man then crawled under the locked gate. The man was lying under a police vehicle when he was apprehended by officers.

Police found a loaded Winchester 30-caliber rifle concealed in a green shirt lying next to the man.

The 50-year-old suspect was taken to Oakwood Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

“Thanks to an alert citizen getting involved a tragedy was averted," chief Ronald Haddad said.
