American Family Planning Inc. Closes Dearborn Office

The controversial abortion clinic has been in Dearborn for more than 20 years and will close its doors on Friday.

American Family Planning Inc. is closing its doors for good in Dearborn on Friday.

Pam James, the clinic's office manager, said the clinic's two employees were notified three months ago of the decision to close.

"The doctor is ready to retire," James said. "He's been wonderful to work for."

James said she could not provide information about the company; however, a search of WebMD shows American Family Planning, located at 4132 Schaefer Road, is owned by Dr. Joon-Nahm Ann. It has been operating in Dearborn for more than 25 years, James said.

Monica Migliorino Miller, a representative of the pro-life activist group Citizens for a Pro-Life Society, said the group is pleased that Dr. Ann is ending his practice.

"We are very happy to see it is not going to be operating any longer," she said.

Miller said the business is the sixth abortion clinic to close in Michigan during the past seven months.

She said Citizens for a Pro-Life Society and Guadalupe Partners have targeted the clinic with protests and informational pickets every year to educate the public about the clinic's abortion practice.

"We are planning a memorial service at the clinic in early June, and expect it to be very well attended," Miller said. "We want to pay tribute to the babies who were killed there and whose lives will never be known."
