Free speech doesn't give you a license to be a jackass. And getting in someone's face with aggressive talk and a pig's head is no way to spread the gospel. I suspect these "missionaries" have less desire to convert Muslims to Christianity, and more of a desire to spread anti-Muslim and anti-Arab views. These "missionaries" and their apologists are no better than the Westboro Baptist Church bigots. They're hateful, go against Jesus' commission, and give actual Christians a bad rap.

If a state passed a law *mandating* a "union shop," that would probably be seen as unfair. Right? Government overreach at its worst. So how is a state passing a law *mandating* an "open shop" not seen as equally unfair?
"Open shop" vs. "Union shop" is a negotiable term, like dress code and wages and seniority. Not something the government should concern itself with.

How about we just allow the workers and employer to negotiate a contract that is suitable to both parties? If enough workers want an open shop, and the ability to opt out of dues, they can fight for that at the negotiating table. Or take the "union shop" option off the table altogether. Or decertify their union. Or elect a group of local leaders who will make an "open shop" their priority.

If someone doesn't like the dress code their union agreed to in negotiations, would it make sense to take it up with a state legislature? To lobby for a law making it illegal for unions and management to negotiate on the issue of dress codes? No, the logical move would be to simply work to change the dress code from within your local at the negotiating table.

So why should the government be allowed to mandate a negotiable term one way or the other, especially when it stacks the deck against one of the two parties? That's not very free-market, and interfering in contract negotiations isn't a conservative value-- except when it punishes one's political enemies apparently, and that's all this is about. Political revenge.

There was TONS of debate over Obamacare. The president actually appeared on live television, surrounded by Republican lawmakers, and debated it with them. Also, there were townhall meetings all across the country where regular citizens could discuss it with their lawmakers. In addition, there were legislative committee hearings on it-- public ones, where actual citizens could attend and watch the sausage being made. And, of course, there were hours upon hours of debate on the House and Senate floor. This went on for months and months. You really don't remember this?

When I was going to UM-D over ten years ago, I was paying about $600/month for a studio in Dearborn, I believe, and that didn't include cable, internet, etc. I think all things considered (the time elapsed since I was a renter, the student housing experience offered by The Union, the amenities offered, the proximity to school), these prices seem very good. If they had this when I was going there, I'd have gathered up four friends and jumped into a 4/4 lease.

Well the most obvious problem, from what I can see in the photo, is that they're using 60-year-old rotary phones.

Lee, you won't be forced to switch to an "Obama healthcare plan." If you already provide healthcare for your employees, that's it. You're good. Where are you getting this $17,000 number? I'd like a cite for that. And I'd also like to see where you get the idea that you have to sign up for "Obamacare." Obamacare isn't a policy that you're being forced in to as an employer. It's just a nickname for the ACA.

That being said, back to Paul Ryan, here's a link to something people on the left will probably think is funny and people on the right probably won't: PaulRyanGosling.tumblr.com

Looking forward to it. But I hope they can survive the lean, long winter months where, unlike Arizona, people don't eat much frozen stuff.

Elena's Mexican Carry-out. Delicious food, very fast carry-out service which is great for quick lunches. Pot Belly is another good one-- healthy options, quick service, delicious sandwiches, and live music several days a week.
