Dearborn lottery players have won more than $100,000 since 2008.
If you're looking to play the Michigan Lottery's Powerball and you live in Dearborn, you might have a better chance than most. According to information on the Michigan Lottery's website, two tickets worth more than $100,000 have been sold in Dearborn since 2008. The biggest payout was sold Nov. 28, 2012 at the CVS Pharmacy, 13250 Ford Road, and worth $1 million. Another ticket, sold Nov. 3, 2010 at the Gold Star Market, 5021 Wyoming Ave., was worth $200,000. The couple are retired and plan their first big spend to be on Christmas presents for their children and grandchildren.
Retirement will be worry-free for Eugene and Nancy Gaspar of Dearborn, who were announced Wednesday as $1 million winners of the Nov. 8 Powerball drawing. According to a release from the Michigan Lottery, the couple couldn't believe they had won with a ticket they bought at the CVS Pharmacy on Ford Road. “I was in shock, numb,” said Eugene Gaspar of realizing he and his wife of 56 years had had won. “We won’t have any money worries in the future." The numbers, he revealed, were a compilation of his grandchildren’s birthdates. Appropriately, Nancy added that their first big splurge would be on Christmas presents for their four children and four grandchildren. “I can’t think of anything I really need," she added. CVS Pharmacy on Ford Road in Dearborn sold a $1 million ticket in Wednesday's record Powerball drawing.
Dearborn proved a lucky location for the record $587.5 million Powerball drawing. Some fortunate person close to home matched five numbers—but not the Powerball number—in Wednesday’s drawing to win $1 million. That ticket was purchased at the CVS Pharmacy on Ford Road in Dearborn, according to a press release from the Michigan Lottery. Another $1 million ticket was sold in Michigan at East Paris Discount Liquor in Kentwood.
