Detroit Man Arrested for Shoplifting Razors from Walmart

A 48-year-old Detroit man was arrested by Dearborn Police for allegedly shoplifting two Gillette razors from the Walmart located at 5851 Mercury Drive in Dearborn. According to police reports, officers were dispatched to the store around 11:30 a.m. on May 14 after receiving a call from the store's loss prevention security. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a loss prevention associate who informed them that he observed the man select two razors from the cosmetics aisle and quickly exit the area. Store surveillance cameras show the suspect pay for several other items at a checkout kiosk and place the two razors in a shopping bag before attempting to exit the store. Inkster Man's Death Second Fatality on Michigan Avenue in a Week

A 35-year-old Inkster man died when his motorcycle was struck by another vehicle in Dearborn on Thursday.

Dearborn Police have confirmed that a 35-year-old Inkster man was killed early Thursday morning when his motorcycle was struck by another vehicle on Michigan Avenue. According to a press release from the department, the accident occurred around 2:30 a.m. near westbound Michigan Avenue and northbound Gulley Road. "Our investigation into this accident is continuing at this time and currently it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved," the department said in a written statement. The city of Dearborn has experienced several fatal accidents in recent weeks. Teen Driver Killed in Multi-Vehicle Accident on Michigan Avenue

Destiny Henderson, 16, a student at Inkster High School, died when her vehicle was struck by a bus in Dearborn.

A 16-year-old girl was killed in a multi-vehicle accident that shut down Michigan Avenue near the Southfield Freeway in Dearborn for three hours on Monday. Destiny Henderson, a junior at Inkster High School, died when a SMART bus struck her Ford Escort from behind while it was stopped at a traffic light on Michigan Avenue near American Drive around 3:20 p.m. Dearborn Fire Department Chief Joseph Murray said the force of the impact caused the Escort to hit a pickup truck that was also stopped at the traffic light, pushing the truck several feet down the street. Dearborn Police Warn of Multiple Vehicle Larcenies

According to Crime Mapping.com, break-ins occurred on S. Lafayette St. and Rockford and S. Claremont streets since May 1.

Detectives at the Dearborn Police Department said Thursday that they are investigating a string of vehicle break-ins over the past few weeks. According to Crime Mapping.com, police responded to a vehicle break-in at Rockford and S. Claremont streets on May 6. Parts and accessories were stolen from the vehicle. A second larceny took place in the 5000 block of Schaefer at 3:44 p.m. on May 6. Two break-ins also occurred in the 400 block of S. Lafayette Street at 4 a.m. May 7, and at 10 p.m. May 6, police said. On May 8, officers responded to the 400 block of N. Franklin St. for a larceny complaint as well. The Dearborn Police Department is reminding residents to take the following precautions:

UPDATED: Dearborn Police Reduce Budget by $3 Million for 2014 Fiscal Year

The department will eliminate 19 unfilled positions as part of an agreement with the Police Officers Association of Dearborn.

Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad presented the department's proposed 2013-14 fiscal year budget to the Dearborn City Council on Monday. The department is asking for roughly $34.4 million, or about $3 million less than the current fiscal year. It includes the elimination of 19 unfilled full-time positions per an agreement with the Police Officers Association of Dearborn. Mayor John B. Dearborn Residents Looking to Revive Neighborhood Watch Program

Residents living near Duvall Elementary School in Dearborn will meet with police on May 8.

Residents of the Duvall-Edison Neighborhood Association in Dearborn are working with the Dearborn Police Department to revive a Neighborhood Watch program in their community. An informational meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. May 8 in the cafeteria at Duvall Elementary School. Interested families can meet with Officer Dan Bartok, who will provide an overview of crime prevention tips, crime reporting, and how to sustain an active Neighborhood Watch program. Fire at Dearborn High School Under Investigation

Dearborn police officers are investigating a mysterious fire that occurred at Dearborn High School on May 5. According to police reports, officers were dispatched to the school around 12:56 a.m. after 911 operators received a phone call that a high jump landing pad was on fire. Upon arrival, officers determined that an unknown suspect or suspects purposely set the landing pad on fire. Officers located fresh graffiti written in chalk on the cement near the pad. One phrase read "MOE," and another phrase read "Oliver, hey guys," police said. Police discovered a trail east of the graffiti leading to the main burn site. Officers said the trail appeared to be made with an accelerant and had been burnt into the high school's outdoor track. After …

Dearborn Student Assaulted While Walking Home

A 16-year-old student from Fordson High School in Dearborn was assaulted by unknown individuals while he was walking home from school on May 2, police said. According to the Dearborn Police Department, the student was walking near Hemlock and Schaefer streets with his uncle around 3:50 p.m. when he was approached by four black males who started punching and kicking him. The student told police he did not know the suspects and did not know why he was attacked. No items were taken from the student during the assault, police said. The case is under investigation. No suspect information was available at the time of this posting.

Wrong-Way Driver Causes Accident on Southfield Freeway

A 74-year-old Lincoln Park woman is being questioned by Dearborn Police for driving the wrong way on the Southfield Freeway on April 29. According to police reports, the woman was driving a 2008 Mercury Sable north in the southbound lane of the freeway between Rotunda Drive and Oakwood Boulevard at about noon, when she struck another vehicle. Police said two other vehicles were involved in the accident after they crashed while attempting to avoid the woman. The accident caused police to shut down the freeway for several hours in order to clean up vehicle debris. Three of the four drivers, including the woman, were taken to Oakwood Hospital and treated for minor injuries. Police said the woman has not been formally charged with a crime …
