WATCH: Divine Child Volleyball Plays in State Semifinals

DC Volleyball Heads to State Semifinals

The Lady Falcons will take on Lake Odessa Lakewood Thursday night.

Dearborn Divine Child's volleyball team is headed to the Class B state semifinals on Thursday in Battle Creek. The Lady Falcons will face Lake Odessa Lakewood at 7:15 p.m. in the Kellogg Arena for a shot at state finals. DC is fresh off of a Tuesday win against the Haslett in four games: 25-22, 25-18, 23-25, 25-22. According to MLive, DC dominated the first two matches before losing the third and struggling their way to a win in the fourth. “We stayed confident the entire time, and we knew we were going to win,” Senior Captain Megan Mancini told MLive. “We came out strong in the first two sets, and honestly I think we came out a little cocky in the third and let them come back. Dearborn High Volleyball Falls to Wyandotte in Regional Semi-Finals

The Pioneers lost to the Bears in a tiebreaker set Tuesday night.

Dearborn High's volleyball team played their last game of the season Tuesday night, losing to Wyandotte Roosevelt in a regional semifinal at Woodhaven High School. The match came down to a tiebreaking fifth set, which the Bears won 15-12, according to the Michigan High School Athletic Association. Wyandotte won the first two sets, 25-18 and 25-16. Dearborn didn't give up, however, and took the next two sets, 25-23 each, causing the tiebreaker. DHS ended their season with a 10-4 record. Wyandotte moves on to the regional finals against Temperance Bedford on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Woodhaven High School.

Fordson advances in the football playoffs and volleyball teams start postseason play this week.

What high school sports are you watching this week? Here's what's on our radar: Football Playoffs After beating Dearborn High in a close game on Friday, Fordson High has advanced in the football playoffs. The Tractors will play an away game against Detroit Cass Tech on Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. Cass Tech (7-3) comes in off of a 35-6 win against Livonia Churchill on Friday, while Fordson (6-4) is still without star player Michael Berry, who has missed several games with an arm injury. The winner of this week's game will go on to play either Warren Mott or Warren De La Salle. The latter team played Fordson and won earlier this season. The Week Ahead in Dearborn Sports: Oct. 3-9

Big tournaments, and the start of regional matchups make this one exciting week for high school sports.

With most regional games less than a month away (and some starting this week!), it's time for Dearborn teams to ramp up their efforts in preparation for making state championship runs. Here are the games and teams we're watching this week. Girls Golf Regionals take place this week for Dearborn's girls golf teams. Dearborn High plays at Northville's Tanglewood Golf Course on Thursday, while Edsel Ford heads to Farmington Hills' Fox Hills on Friday. Finally, Divine Child's team plays at Orchard Lake Country Club on Thursday as well. The Pioneers are heading into regionals especially confident, after winning three tournaments last week to cap off their 8-0 season. The Week Ahead in Dearborn Sports: Sept. 19-25

The biggest Dearborn sports rivalry of the year happens Sept. 23. Which side are you on?

The cross-town rivalries continue to heat up this week, leading to the culmination of Dearborn sports showdowns. Here's a look at the games we'll be watching this week. Football: Dearborn High-Fordson This is the game we've all been waiting for. Both teams sport promising records: Dearborn High is 4-0, while Fordson is 2-2. Both teams have also posted some high scores. Both head into their big rivalry game fresh off of wins last Friday–Fordson, against Belleville High; and DHS, against its other city rival, Edsel Ford. And both look toward the Friday Night Lights with a bevy of enthusiastic fans at their backs. Dearborn Volleyball Coach Named to Hall of Fame

Dianne Phillips, a 31-year coach of the Pioneers' team, was inducted into the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame July 29.

Dianne Phillips accidentally found her niche in coaching volleyball 31 seasons ago. But this accident would eventually lead Phillips, 58, to earn a spot in the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, an honor bestowed on her on July 29. Phillips served 23 years at Dearborn High School as a physical education instructor before retiring in June 2010. She has been the head coach of the DHS girls varsity volleyball team since the winter of 1989. Phillips was nonetheless surprised when she got the phone call that shined a light on her career. “I was actually coaching a club volleyball team and I was in the gym–we were in the middle of warm-up,” said Phillips. “I got a phone call from the chairperson of the hall of …

Pioneers tie for fourth at Dearborn High Invitational on Friday.

The Pioneers were among seven volleyball programs participating in the Dearborn High Varsity Volleyball Invitational on Friday at Dearborn High School. Dearborn tied for fourth in the tournament after going 2-4 on the day. Westland John Glenn finished first by going undefeated. New Boston Huron placed second, Erie-Mason ended up third, and Warren Mott tied Dearborn for fourth place. Dearborn posted victories over Sterling Heights and Allen Park, and Pioneers coach Dianne Phillips was encouraged by her young team's play. "Today was a very positive growing experience," said Phillips, whose team pushed eventual tournament champion Westland John Glenn before losing in three games. As the 2011-12 school year prepares to kick off, so do high school sports. From football to boys tennis and soccer and girls volleyball and golf, there are plenty of games to watch. Here's our top picks for Aug. 29-Sept. 4. Football: Edsel Ford's football team will host its home opener this week. After a disappointing beginning-of-season loss last Friday to Redford Thurston, the teams have something to prove on their home turf.
