Crime Report: Dearborn Sees Rash of Bicycle Thefts in September

Bicyclists, beware! Five separate bike thefts were reported in Dearborn in September, according to Dearborn police reports. The first theft was reported on Sept. 3. A resident of Ann Arbor who is employed at O'Sushi restaurant in west Dearborn told police that while he was at work between 3:30-5:30 p.m., his Schwinn was taken from the back of the complex. The bike had been locked up before it was taken. The owner told police it was worth $1,800. Then on Sept. 9 on the 200 block of Silvery Lane. A resident told police that her children were playing in the yard of a house several doors down and saw a man riding one of the family's bikes out of the garage, down the driveway and north on Silvery Lane. Crime Report: $10K in Cash Cards Allegedly Stolen from Dearborn Resident

A total of $10,000 in American Express Cash Cards was stolen from a Dearborn resident within the past week, according to Dearborn police reports. A resident of Lyons Court called police on the afternoon of Sept. 22 after the four cash cards, which had been ordered the previous Thursday, never showed up at her home. The resident explained that she ordered the cards online from American Express on Thursday, and requested overnight delivery. When the cards did not arrive, she called American Express on Saturday and was told that the cards were delivered at 9:55 a.m. Friday via UPS and someone signed for them using her last name. The resident informed American Express that she and her daughter were home at that time, and that no one knocked or…

Crime Report: Man Tries to Return Stolen Items for Cash at Dearborn Store

A man unsuccessfully tried to pull a scheme to get cash from a Dearborn store last weekend, according to Dearborn police reports. Employees of the Walgreens on Warren Avenue called police around 3 p.m. on Labor Day with a report of attempted theft. They told police that a man had taken items off of the shelves and attempted to return them for cash using discarded receipts. Items he tried to return included laxative pills, Alli weight loss pills, and Aveeno lotion. The man was denied a refund and left the the store without the items. Employees said they last saw him riding a dark-colored BMX bike southbound on Schaefer Road. Crime Report: Cash, Cologne, Cheese Stolen from Dearborn Market

A thief must have been having an odd feast after breaking into and stealing from a Dearborn market over the weekend. According to a Dearborn police report, a break-in at the Baghdad Market on Warren Avenue early Saturday morning resulted in the theft of $7,000 in cash and checks from the register, an unknown number of phone cards, several bottles of Jordache cologne, five cooler shelves' worth of cheese, 20-30 bags of rice, and an undetermined number of glass jars containing tomato paste. Dearborn police were called to the scene around 7:45 a.m. Saturday morning by a man who identified himself as the cousin of the store's owner. Crime Report: Four Dearborn Home Invasions Reported in Past Week

Four Dearborn residents reported break-ins to their homes within the past week, according to Dearborn police reports. Numerous items were stolen in the thefts, including laptops and jewelry–though one homeowner was lucky in that the would-be thief did not gain entry to his home. That situation, on the 3800 block of Roosevelt, was brought to the attention of police when a family returned home from a six-day vacation on Saturday. The homeowner told police that their rear door had been heavily damaged, with clear signs that whoever did the damage was trying to get inside. Dearborn Sees Rash of Thefts from Unlocked Cars

Police remind residents of tips to keep their cars and belongings safe.

Though thefts from parked vehicles can occur in any situation, leaving a car unlocked makes the job easier for would-be thieves. Such was the occassion when six cars were broken into on the same evening in Dearborn this month. In all of the thefts, owners of the vehicles reported that their cars were left unlocked. Stolen items ranged from loose change to expensive electronics and wallets, according to Dearborn police reports. On the 2200 block of Golfview, a GPS unit was stolen from a Ford Windstar. On the 25100 block of Doxtator, a wallet and iPod Nano from a Dodge Charger. Crime Report: Break-In at Chase Road Supermarket Caught on Video

A Dearborn supermarket was broken into within the past week, according to Dearborn police reports. Police responded to Brothers Supermarket on Chase Road around 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, when the security alarm for the business was tripped. Police arrived to find that the supermarket's front window had been smashed out, and someone had apparently been inside, as items were strewn about the floor and in disarray. The owner arrived and confirmed that several things were stolen from the store. They included a phone card of unknown value, several packs of cigarettes, and the change from the tip jar. Crime Report: Bicycle, Patio Set, American Flags Stolen from Dearborn Homes

A number of items were reported as stolen from the yards of Dearborn homes within the past week, according to Dearborn police reports. A resident of the 100 block of Berkley told police that an American flag had been stolen from its mount on his front porch. According to the resident, the flag was taken between 9 a.m. Aug. 16 and 9 a.m. Aug. 18. The man said he also spoke with his neighbor, whose American flag was stolen during the same time period as well. On the 21700 block of Garrison, a resident of the condominiums in that area told police that a patio set–including four chairs and a glass-top table–was taken from his back patio. Multiple Bottles of Prescription Drugs Stolen from Dearborn Pharmacy

A tripped alarm at a Dearborn pharmacy this week led police to the scene of a massive theft of prescription drugs, according to Dearborn police reports. Police responded to West Village Pharmacy on Monroe Street around 4:20 a.m. on Wednesday morning after multiple alarms were tripped at the business. They found that the deadbolt was still locked, but the case around it had been pried around it to gain entry to the front door. Inside, bottles and loose pills were strewn all over the floor behind the counter. Drawers and cabinets were open and appeared to have been gone through. Crime Report: Thousands in Jewelry, Electonics Stolen from Dearborn Home

Thousands of dollars in goods and cash were stolen from the upper flat of a Dearborn home this week, according to police reports. The break in was reported by the resident of the flat in a home on the 7700 block of Miller Road on Monday evening. She told police that she was gone from the home between 10-11:30 p.m. When she returned home, she found that the door had been kicked in and a number of things were missing–many of them expensive. It appeared that all the rooms in the home had been gone through, including her and her children's bedrooms. Missing items included a safe filled with $11,000 in jewelry, an XBox and multiple games, five laptops, and $3,000 cash. Police had no leads in the robbery. For questions on this crime report, …
