Music Fans Turnout for Record Store Day in Dearborn

Vinyl gets a revival as shoppers flock to pick up rare releases at Stormy Records and Dearborn Music.

Independent record stores in Dearborn enjoyed a vinyl revival Saturday when music fans came out in droves to support international Record Store Day. Customers stood outside Dearborn Music and Stormy Records on Michigan Avenue from early Saturday morning, hoping to nab one of the many limited-edition releases by The White Stripes and other national artists. "We had a great customer turnout," Rick Leannis of Dearborn Music said. "A lot of people got what they wanted; it's like Christmas." Leannis said the store was open by 8:30 a.m., but by 8 a.m. a line of roughly 125 people was already forming. "Our earliest customer was standing at the door at 3 a.m.," he said. "The whole event can be stressful because we want to make sure we have the …

Dearborn Comic Store Set to Reopen After Van Crashes Through Wall

Stormy Records had already reopened Tuesday after Sunday's accident.

Downtown east Dearborn store Green Brain Comics is set to reopen Wednesday after closing due to a van crashing into the side of the building Sunday. Upper-level store Stormy Records, which is located within the same building, reopened Tuesday. A vehicle crashed into the side of the two-story brick building at around 6 a.m. Sunday morning. Green Brain, Stormy Records Closed For Repairs After Van Hits Building

Both east downtown Dearborn stores will be closed until at least Tuesday.

No, it's not the latest installation of avant-garde art. That's actually a van sticking out of the side of Green Brain Comics. A vehicle slid into the side of the two-story brick building in east downtown Dearborn Sunday morning. The van made it half-way through the wall and had to be towed out. The driver was taken away with injuries, although it's unclear how extensively he was hurt. According to Green Brain owner Dan Merritt, he and his wife and co-owner Katie were woken up at 6 a.m. Sunday by a call from their alarm company, letting them know that the alarm had been tripped at their store, which is located on Michigan Avenue at the corner of Jonathon Street. Police further informed them that "a vehicle had hit the store," Merritt told …

Musicians Windy and Carl to Release New Tunes

Local musicians and owners of Stormy Records, Windy Weber and Carl Hultgren discuss the forthcoming releases of a full-length album and a two-song EP.

For 22 years, Windy Weber and Carl Hultgren have been making music together. The husband and wife owners of Stormy Records in east Dearborn are busy putting the finishing touches on a currently untitled full-length album and a two-song EP, both expected to release early next year. "It's one new piece that's a new composition and one song that is a cover song," Weber said of the vinyl-only EP to be issued under the Geographic North label. "It's a country song." While they won't mention the specific song they are covering, they did say it is a Dwight Yoakam tune from the '90s. "In our own style, of course," Hultgren added.  Critics have labeled their style as "space-rock" and "post-rock," even "American shoegazing" thanks to their use of …
