UPDATE: Snow Emergency Has Ended for Dearborn

Residents may now park their cars back on the street.

Update, 5 p.m. Thursday: The snow emergency has been declared over by the City of Dearborn. Residents may now park their cars back in the street. ------------------------------------------------ The city of Dearborn has declared a snow emergency, effective at 9 p.m. Wednesday. The city's emergency warning sirens will sound at to alert residents of the emergency. City-wide plowing of streets will begin as early as 4 a.m. Thursday. Parked vehicles must be off the streets to allow for efficient and safe snowplowing. Sidewalks should not be blocked. Tickets will be issued to owners of parked vehicles left on the streets. No warnings are issued. Southeast Michigan was blanketed with several inches of snow on Wednesday, beginning around noon and…

City Council Approves Snow Emergency, Public Service Day Parking Ordinance Change

Dearborn residents can now be ticketed for parking over the sidewalk during a snow emergency or on their public service day.

Two ordinance changes to help the city of Dearborn comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act were approved at Tuesday night's City Council meeting. The amendments will affect the city's ordinances on parking restrictions and public service days, and requires that residents not park in such a way that their car blocks the sidewalk on public service days, or during snow emergencies. The reasoning is that blockage of the sidewalk makes safe passage difficult or impossible for some residents with disabilities. Both changes were adopted unanimously by the council. Tommy... don't worry.... Officials are in the process of fixing the improper setbacks. The setbacks will stay the same. However, the cars will eventually all be like 'Smart' cars and be very small, the setbacks and your one car garage will be able to hold at least two cars. Thank your govt for the regulations forcing this to happen. You wanted to drive a smaller car anyway...right?   more ›

Rules to Remember for Snow Removal

As the snow starts to fall, here are some helpful tips to make it through the winter in Dearborn.

With the first significant snowfall on the ground, the city of Dearborn is reminding residents to take steps to make winter weather easier on everyone, as well as avoid fines. Be Careful With Your Cars Dearborn’s service days–during which parked vehicles needed to be moved off of residential streets for trash and recycling bin pick-up–have ended for the season, but with snow on the ground, there are many more reasons to keep your cars in your garage, driveway or nearby lots whenever possible, city officials say. “Dearborn residents can help get the roads plowed faster this winter by moving parked vehicles off of the street whenever three inches or more of snow is predicted to fall,” the city advised in a recent release.
