Technology Advances Continue at Dearborn Sacred Heart

The Catholic school recently purchased 30 iPads for student use.

If there's one word to describe the best way to make advances in the way children are learning in schools, that word would be technology. Just as computers in schools have changed the educational landscape for decades, iPads and Promethean Boards are the way of the future for students—possibly even heading in the direction of doing away with textbooks entirely. At Sacred Heart Catholic School in Dearborn, a 2012 grant from the Archdiocese of Detroit continues to make technological advances in classrooms possible for the K-8 school. Last year, the school used part of that $60,000 grand to purchase Promethean Boards, which are interactive whiteboards used in classrooms. Sacred Heart School Receives $60K Technology Grant

The Archdiocese of Detroit granted the funds to upgrade the school's learning technology.

Dearborn Sacred Heart Catholic School announced Monday that they have received a $60,000 grant from the Archdiocese of Detroit to upgrade the school's learning technology. School officials applauded the grant, saying it would help students acheive more in the classroom. “Technology is so important, it is all around us," said SHS Principal Melissa Lambrecht. "Today, we are a global world. I would like to provide our Sacred Heart students with as many opportunities to learn as possible and upgrading technology helps students go beyond the four walls of the classroom.” This grant process was opened up to all of the Catholic schools in the Archdiocese, and it does not require any matching funds. Whiz Kids: Sacred Heart Students Earn Art Awards

The Archdiocese of Detroit contest challenged students to draw saints, and three kids received high honors.

Name: Henry Bierman, Julia Kirby and Elisa Sikora Age: 13, 13 and 9 School: Sacred Heart Catholic School Accomplishment: The three students–Bierman and Kirby are in the eighth grade and Sikora is in the fourth–received awards for creativity in an art contest organized and judged by members of the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions, or PIME. The mission is headquartered in Detroit. The contest was organized by the Archdiocese of Detroit. This year’s theme for the contest was to create a depiction of Fr. Clement Vismara, who from 1923 to 1988 carried out missions with a special interest in helping children in what is now known as Myanmar.
