Around 4,000 DTE customers were without power for 4-12 hours after a van parked near a power substation caught fire in west Dearborn.
11 p.m.: Power appears to be restored to all Dearborn homes and businesses affected by the outage Thursday. The restoration efforts—aided by dozens of DTE workers—happened in phases. Some regained power as early as 1 p.m.; the last blocks waited until after 10 p.m. for their lights and heat to come back on. The buzzing of generators could be heard coming from many Dearborn homes. The cause of the van fire that spurred the outages was still unknown Thursday night. 4:20 p.m.: Around 2,000 Dearborn homes and businesses were still without power late Thursday afternoon after a fire resulted in an outage that morning. A wind advisory issued this morning will remain in effect through 8 p.m. Monday. Wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour are likely to affect southeastern Michigan as a cold front moves through the area.
Tree branches snapped and power went in and out at homes all over southeast Michigan Monday as high winds battered the area. The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory about 11:45 a.m. Monday warning of 25 to 35 mile-per-hour winds with gusts reaching up to 50 miles per hour. The advisory is in effect unitl 8 p.m. The southwest winds were picking up as a cold front moves through southeastern Michigan. There are 17 counties on the advisory, including Wayne, Macomb and Oakland counties. DTE reported about 1,091 people in Dearborn were without power Monday afternoon in the area of Outer Drive and Monroe Street. There are no estimates as to when power will be restored. DTE Energy estimates that power will be restored late Saturday night.
A fire at an electrical substation near Oakwood Hospital left more than 2,500 Dearborn residents without power on Saturday. According to Dearborn Fire Department Captain Robert Cunningham, the department's battalion chief was on his way back from an unrelated call at Oakwood around 4 p.m. when he spotted what appeared to be a fire at a Detroit Edison substation. Stations 1 and 2 responded and were able to put the fire out relatively quickly. However, the incident caused massive power outages in the area, affecting approximately 2,500 residences and businesses in the area of Oakwood Boulevard, Southfield Freeway, Rotunda Drive and Outer Drive. A wind advisory is in effect for much of southeast Michigan through 11 p.m. Wednesday
High winds blowing throughout southeast Michigan on Wednesday have left thousands without power in Oakland, Wayne, Washtenaw and Macomb Counties. The worst of the outages has occurred in Oakland County. In Farmington and Farmington Hills, more than 8,000 homes and businesses are without power, according to DTE Energy. Another 2,000 or more outages are reported in West Bloomfield, as well as 1,000 in Bloomfield. Smaller outages have been reported elsewhere from southern Wayne County to northern Oakland and Macomb counties, including Canton, White Lake, Plymouth and Dearborn. Also, in Berkeley, high winds caused a tree to fall onto a car. The driver was not injured. DTE Energy has no estimates as to when power will be restored. The National …

Fewer than 1,000 DTE Energy customers lost power Thursday morning, but one of those buildings was Dearborn High School.
A power outage Thursday morning caused Dearborn Public Schools to release Dearborn High students early. Wayne County workers repairing nearby streetlights at Outer Drive and Cherry Hill said power went out around 9:30 a.m., according to their equipment. Students were released an hour later and were not called back, although power was restored to the school around 11 a.m. DTE Energy Media Representative Alejandro Bodipo-Memba said that fewer than 1,000 customers lost power, and that the causes were still unknown as of Thursday morning. Heavy storms cause outages sporadically across southeast Michigan–but DTE is unsure if all of Dearborn's outages are related to weather.
Update, 3 p.m. Sunday: Power to many of Dearborn's homes and businesses was restored faster than expected. By Sunday afternoon, outages were down to around 1,000 total across the city. Across the Detroit Edison service area, 103,000 customers remained without service as of Sunday afternoon, DTE reported. That number was down from a high of 117,000 Saturday night. DTE Energy reminds residents that they should still report any outages or downed power lines by calling 800-477-4747. Henry Ford Centennial Library is closed because of a power outage. It has not been determined when the library will reopen.
UPDATE: CDTV was back up and running on Wednesday, while the library reopened–with power–on Friday. ---------------------- A power outage has closed the Henry Ford Centennial Library in Dearborn on Monday, as well as interrupted City of Dearborn Television, according to a press release from the city. DTE Energy has told library officials that the problem is due to a "bad splice in the underground conduit" that needs to be replaced. Because of the outage, the Blockbuster Series movie has been canceled for Monday night. Also as a result of the outage, City of Dearborn Television has been temporarily interrupted. Hours are 10:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. The Esper Branch of the Dearborn Public Library will close at 4 p.m. Tuesday due to a "brownout" power outage. According to Library Deputy Director Julie Schaefer, a voltage problem causing limited power meant that the building needed to be powered down on Monday. Currently, there is no air conditioning and there are no public computers, prompting the library's decision to close early.
