Fundraiser to Help Provide Healthy Meals to Dearborn Children

Funds from event will help fund the Blessings in a Backpack program in Dearborn.

Nearly 14,000 of the 19,100 students at Dearborn Public Schools are eligible for free and reduced-priced breakfast and lunch meals. This federally funded program helps ensure that children aren't learning on an empty stomach during the school day. But what happens when they go home for the weekend? A fundraiser to be held Wednesday at Park Place will help ensure that weekends aren't spent hungry for Dearborn kids in need. The Blessings in a Backpack program helps provide meals to take home for kids in 437 schools across the U.S., Canada, Haiti, an Columbia. Go Vegan, Help Homeless Animals at the No Beast Feast

The annual Dearborn Animal Shelter fundraiser dinner will be held Sept. 14.

Local eateries will show off their vegetarian fare at the Dearborn Animal Shelter’s No Beast Feast, set for Friday, Sept. 14. The event will take place from 6-10 p.m. at Park Place, located at 23400 Park Street in Dearborn. It will feature fresh, hearty and local vegan cuisine–including specialty appetizers, entrees and desserts from Bangkok 96, Park Place Catering, Henry Ford Community College Culinary Arts School and the Inn Season Café of Royal Oak. This year, author and presenter Dr. Kerrie Saunders will also visit the No Beast Feast to offer insight about how plant-based foods can be nutritional heroes.
