Man Swindled Out of $110 at Dearborn Office Max

A Detroit resident shopping at the Dearborn Office Max said someone claiming to be an employee stole $110 from him, according to police reports. The man was shopping at the store around 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday when a man identifying himself as an employee offered to help "speed up" the check-out process, given the long line at the time. He guided the shopper to another counter and proceeded to add up the cost of the items in his cart. He told the shopper to give him $110 and to go get some extra notebooks while he began to ring up the purchase. The shopper complied. Office Max Surprises Dearborn Teacher with Special Delivery

Becker teacher Diana Harb was the recipient of the office supply store's A Day Made Better program.

One Dearborn teacher received a $1,000 surprise on Tuesday, thanks to a teacher advocacy program at Office Max. Diana Harb teaches kindergarten at Becker Elementary in Dearborn, and some staff—including Principal David Higgins and secretary Amira Kadiri—felt that she was doing an exemplary job. That's why they nominated Harb for Office Max's A Day Made Better. Harb was one of 1,000 teachers across the country who were chosen by Office Max out of thousands of nominees to be rewarded for their extraordinary efforts in the classroom. Winners received $1,000 in school supplies for their classrooms, including arts and crafts, notebooks, and even cameras.
