A competency exam will be conducted on Kelly Brady while the preliminary exam will now take place on Sept. 21.
On Friday morning, the preliminary exam for Kelly Brady — charged with the 1991 murder of Gracielita Flores in Dearborn — was postponed to Sept. 21 to allow a competency evaluation to be completed on Brady. Currently a resident of Florida, Brady turned himself into the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s deputies in May, allegedly confessing to a crime now older than 20 years. Dearborn police were informed and Brady was extradited to Michigan for a case that had been all but forgotten. The murderer of Gracelita was never identified and the case was cold until Brady allegedly confessed. Tucker Cipriano and Mitchell Young will stand trial in Circuit Court.
Tucker Cipriano, 19, and Mitchell Young, 20, pleaded not guilty on the five felony charges they face in connection with the April 16 attack that left Tucker's father dead and his mother and brother critically injured. The two appeared in Oakland County Circuit Court Tuesday afternoon for an arraignment and face the following charges: The two were arraigned separately, and each arraignment lasted just a few minutes. Neither Young nor Cipriano spoke, as their attorneys spoke on their behalf. Young is now scheduled to have a pre-trial on July 31 at 1:30 p.m. in Oakland County Circuit Court. Tucker Cipriano, 19, and Mitchell Young, 20, are expected to appear in Oakland County Circuit Court today at 3 p.m. for an arraignment on five felony charges. The two are expected to enter their pleas on the charges they face in connection with the death of Tucker Cipriano's father, Bob, and assaults on his mother, Rose, and brother, Salvatore on April 16. A preliminary exam held June 8 at the 47th District Court in Farmington Hills included testimony from family and friends of the defendants and victims that spanned about two hours and shed additional light on what happened to the Cipriano family that night. The preliminary examination for a Dearborn man charged with first-degree murder has been rescheduled, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office announced Thursday. Two suspects are now in custody in connection with the early morning beating death of Dearborn Public Schools Director of Business Services and Farmington Hills resident Robert Cipriano. Police announced the arrest of son Tucker Robert Cipriano at around 8:40 a.m. Monday morning. Dearborn Public Schools district spokesman David Mustonen said that in the DPS Administrative Services Building where Robert (Bob) Cipriano worked, "we met with staff just to make sure everyone knew the details. Tanaka Wells will be sentenced on March 13 for the 2011 murder of Jay Shin.
A Wayne County jury has convicted a Detroit man in the murder of a Dearborn store owner, the Dearborn Police Department announced Friday. Twenty-year-old Tanaka Wells was found guilty of first degree murder, as well as three counts of armed robbery and firearm use, in the March 15, 2011, slaying of Jay Shin, as well as the robbery of his Dearborn store, Sunrise Beauty Supply. Wells is set to be sentenced on March 13 in front of Judge Lawrence Talon. With a history of previous armed robbery convictions, he is expected to receive a life sentence. A man accused of shooting someone to death during a basketball court scuffle in Dearborn this summer has been scheduled for a jury trial. Dearborn resident Fadi Faraj–who was arrested in July and charged with the murder of 23-year-old Hassan Zeidan–will face a jury trial in front of Detroit Judge Carole Youngblood on Dec. 5, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. The charges arise from a scuffle on an east Dearborn basketball court on July 13. According to witnesses, Faraj left the basketball court to go to his car and came back with a gun. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office announced Tuesday afternoon that a suspect in the Sept. 14 shooting of a Dearborn Heights Man has been arraigned on charges of home invasion, robbery and murder. Detroit resident Antonnie O'Neil Ray, 19, was arrested in connection with the homicide of Moshin Jaber-Hassoun Al-Uglah of Dearborn Heights. A warrent request for Ray's suspected accomplice in the crime is still being reviewed, the prosecutor's office said Tuesday. The events leading up to the alleged July 13 murder of a Dearborn man were replayed in the 19th District Court Friday morning, as a witness recounted the story in the case’s first preliminary examination. The prosecution’s only witness was at the scene of the alleged murder of 23-year-old Hassan Zeidan on the basketball court behind Riverside Academy West. Both witnesses called to the stand by defense attorney Elias Muawad chose not to testify before seeking legal counsel.
