Motorcyclist Killed in Michigan Avenue Crash in Dearborn

The early Thursday morning accident took place on Michigan Avenue near Gulley Street.

A motorcyclist was killed early Thursday morning in an accident on Michigan Avenue near Gulley Street, Channel 4 reports. The accident involving the motorcycle and a car took place around 3 a.m. in the westbound lanes. It was unclear what caused the crash that led to lane closures on Michigan Avenue until around 6:30 a.m., according to the television station's website. The motorcyclist's age and identity were not immediately known, nor was information about whether he was wearing a helmet at the time, the station reports. Hazmat Situation Closes I-94 Near Michigan Avenue (Updated at 4:50 p.m.)

A truck leaking fuel caused I-94 to be closed in both directions Wednesday afternoon near Michigan Avenue as emergency crews worked to clean up the scene. West I-94 reopened just before 5 p.m.

UPDATE, MAY 16 AT 4:50 P.M. Michigan State Police report that eastbound Interstate 94 remains closed, but that westbound I-94 is now open. ----- Michigan State Police report that Interstate 94 near Michigan Avenue is closed in both directions Wednesday afternoon because of an accident involving a semi truck and another vehicle. The semi truck is leaking fuel. The Detroit Fire Department is on the scene and has declared the scene a hazmat emergency. A car was pinned underneath the truck, according to a report by WDIV. Dearborn Patch will have more on the story as it becomes available.

Construction Alert: Lane Closures Start April 16 on Michigan Avenue

A sidewalk curb project will cause the Michigan Department of Transportation to close lanes on US-12 in Dearborn.

Construction will start Monday, April 16, on a project to make sidewalk curbs on Michigan Avenue and Telegraph Road compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The construction will affect Dearborn drivers. The $550,000 project of the Michigan Department of Transportation will require intermittent single-lane closures. The US-12 project, between Brady Street and Outer Drive, and the US-24 work, between Joy and Plymouth roads, will begin as early as Monday. All work is expected to be completed by July.
