Trenton Republican Calls Win in 12th District Congressional Primary

Cynthia Kallgren will face longtime U.S. Rep. John Dingell in the Nov. 6 general election.

With late-night numbers too close to call on the Aug. 7 primaries, unofficial results from the Michigan Secretary of State Wednesday morning are giving the Republican bid for the 12th District U.S. House of Representatives seat to Trenton businesswoman Cynthia Kallgren. With 100 percent of precincts reporting from the Wayne and Washtenaw territories the new 12th District covers, Kallgren appears to have won by 358 votes over Karen Jacobsen of Dearborn. Kallgren's camp called the election around 9 a.m. Wednesday via their Twitter account, telling followers "The final results are in! Thanks to everyone who made this possible." The tweet links to results as reported by the Associated Press; however, the AP and other media outlets had not …

Dearborn Republican Hosts Opening of Congressional Campaign Office

Karen Jacobsen will face Cynthia Kallgren of Trenton in the Republican primary for the 12th Congressional District on Aug. 7.

Community members from the newly drawn 12th Congressional District convened at the grand opening of Republican candidate Karen Jacobsen's Dearborn office on Tuesday. Jacobsen did not give a formal speech, but spent the evening speaking individually with visitors about who they were, what they did, and what issues are important to them. Her trademark "Mitten cutout" was displayed prominently, showing the Jacobsen family's favorite places in the state of Michigan. Jacobsen is running to oust longtime Dearborn Democrat John Dingell, who has represented the area for more than 50 years. First, however, she will face off against Cynthia Kallgren of Trenton in the Republican primary for the 12th District on Aug. 7. More: Learn about the …

Karen is so impressive - great understanding of what our needs are, and some very refreshing common sense. And you couldn't meet a kinder, more sincere, more open person. It would be a boon and a thrill to see her in Congress.   more ›

12th Congressional District: Karen Jacobsen

Karen Jacobsen will face off in the Republican primary against Cynthia Kallgren of Trenton for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

This is the second of a four part series introducing the candidates running for the 12th Congressional seat. Karen Jacobsen can remember a time several years back when, as she puts it, “I was not all that politically aware.” But, like many Americans, she was spurred to interest and eventually to action in 2009, when President Barack Obama’s health care reform bill passed into law. “I never thought in my wildest dreams that (Congress) would pass that bill,” said Jacobsen. “At that point, I had an epiphany: These people don’t work for us anymore.” Fast-forward to this year, and Jacobsen–a 22-year resident of Dearborn and the co-owner of die-cut company Jacobsen Industries with husband Lee–has thrown her hat in the ring for the Republican …

Funny, all your objections are items that Obama has also championed but I'll wager you'll vote for him in November! Bush was a liberal that only ran as a Republican because of is insane bible views.   more ›

Dearborn Woman to Run for Congress in 12th District

Karen Jacobsen hopes to unseat Democrat John Dingell, who is the longest running member of Congress.

A Dearborn woman on Thursday announced her candidacy for U.S. Congress in Michigan's 12th District. Karen Jacobsen, a businesswoman who lives in Dearborn with her husband and daughter, is running in the Republican congressional primary in August for the House of Representatives. Jacobsen announced her candidacy from her home in Dearborn Thursday afternoon. According to her official website, Jacobsen describes herself as "a regular American who wants to unwind, reduce and simplify our federal government in Washington, DC." "It’s time to throw off the heavy weight of government so we can be free, productive and prosperous," she adds. U.S. Rep. John Dingell, who is running in the Democratic primary for the same seat, also announced his …
