Bridge demolition work this weekend will require the closure of a section of I-94 near Dearborn, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. Bridge demolition on a section of the West Grand Boulevard overpass will result in the full closure of eastbound I-94 from Michigan Avenue to I-96. The closure will begin at 9 p.m. Friday and end by 5 a.m. Monday. All entrance ramps within the closure limits will also be closed. MDOT recommends that eastbound traffic redirect to take northbound M-39 to eastbound I-96 to rejoin eastbound I-94 at the I-96 interchange. The Metro Region program will include $187 million in bridge and pavement repair.
The Michigan Department of Transportation's $187 million construction program for 2013 will include repairs to the I-94 bridge over Telegraph Road. According to a press release from MDOT, the $1.2 million project will "reconstruct the bridge approaches over US-24." There's no set timeline on that project or dozens of others, which MDOT detailed this week. The Metro Region 2013 program will provide roughly $142 million for pavement repair and roughly $45 million to upgrade bridges to good condition. This will include repair of 80 miles of pavement and 15 bridges in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb and St. Clair counties. Bridge work near the I-94/Southfield Freeway interchange will enter a new phase on Wednesday, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. Starting at 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26, the westbound I-94 ramp to northbound M-39 closed until 11 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30. According to MDOT, the ramp closure is needed as crews continue bridge demolition on the eastbound Van Born Road bridge, which spans over the westbound I-94 ramp to northbound M-39. This work is part of an overall $13.8 million investment and all work is expected to be completed in November. Construction on I-94 and M-39 will affect Dearborn-area drivers this week according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. Eastbound and westbound I-94 will have alternating single and double lane closures between I-96 and Michigan Avenue from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday for ongoing bridge work. Single lane closures will be during daylight hours (7 a.m. – 9 p.m.) and double lane closures during overnight hours (9 p.m. – 7 a.m. Friday and Saturday). All lanes will be open by 5 a.m. Monday.
