The annual basketball tournament is held to raise funds for the Karmanos Cancer Institute.
Edsel Ford High School hosted the annual Guido Showcase on Wednesday. The annual Dearborn-based tournament raises funds for the Karmanos Cancer Institute. in memory of former Dearborn Mayor Michael Guido, who passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2006. Basketball teams from Dearborn High, Fordson High, Edsel Ford and Divine Child competed against other area schools in the tournament. The showcase is usually held over two days during the district's winter break, but was condensed to one. According to the Detroit Free Press, Ali Farhat—playing with the Pioneers—was the stand-out player of the day. The Lady Falcons will take on Lake Odessa Lakewood Thursday night.
Dearborn Divine Child's volleyball team is headed to the Class B state semifinals on Thursday in Battle Creek. The Lady Falcons will face Lake Odessa Lakewood at 7:15 p.m. in the Kellogg Arena for a shot at state finals. DC is fresh off of a Tuesday win against the Haslett in four games: 25-22, 25-18, 23-25, 25-22. The Detroit team beat Dearborn 42-23 Saturday at Cass Field.
The football season is officially over for Dearborn schools. While Fordson and Edsel Ford's runs had already ended for 2012, the remaining team—Dearborn High School's Pioneers—was knocked out of the running for a state title Saturday afternoon in a district championship game against Detroit's Cass Tech. It's the third district title in a row for the school. They won 42-23 on their home turf. According to the Detroit Free Press, DHS was up at the half, 17-14. However, Cass Tech answered with 28 points in the second half for a commanding lead the Pioneers just couldn't catch up to. Dearborn High is moving on in the playoffs. The Pioneers got their revenge Friday night in the first game of post-season play, beating Fordson 24-14 in a pre-district game on the Tractors' turf. Last time the Dearborn rivals met, Fordson shut out Dearborn, 35-0. DHS will take on Detroit Cass Tech next in the district finals, after their win Friday over Grosse Pointe South (37-3).

Dearborn High and Fordson will go head to head Friday in the pre-districts of the 2012 MHSAA Football Playoffs, according to the Michigan High School Athletic Association. Pre-districts for 11-player playoffs and pre-regionals for 8-player playoffs all take place Oct. 26-27. Dearborn goes into the first game of pre-districts with a 6-3 record; compared to Fordson's 7-2 record. The winner will face the triumphant team from the match-up of Detroit Cass Tech and Grosse Pointe South in the district finals. Natalie Blazo won the individual state championship at the Division 3 girls golf finals on Saturday.
Natalie Blazo of Divine Child won the individual state championship at the Division 3 girls golf finals at Bedford Valley Golf Course in Battle Creek on Saturday, according to the MHSAA. Blazo shot a 76 in Saturday’s second round to clinch the state title. Combined with her opening round of 81, Blazo’s 36-hole total of 157 gave her a seven-stroke victory over Ayla Bogie of Clio and Cordelia Chan of Cranbrook. “My putting was great,” Blazo said in a report on the MHSAA’s Second Half website. “I made some long ones to save par.”

As of 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dearborn was in fifth place. the Taylor Truman vs. Taylor Kennedy game led the poll. The winner will be announced on Local 4 News Morning at 6:30 a.m. Thursday. The winner will be showcased Friday on Local 4 as the game of the week with live coverage at the game. Dearborn's biggest rivalry football game of the year starts at 7 p.m. Friday.
When it comes to Dearborn prep football, tonight's the biggest night of the year. At 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, Fordson High School and Dearborn High School—the city's biggest rival schools—will again go head to head for a night of crowd-pleasing, nail-biting, pride-showing football. This year's game will take place on Fordson's turf. Heading into the rivalry match-up, the Tractors (3-1) hold a better season record than the Pioneers (2-2). Both teams come into the game fresh off of wins in their last games—DHS against Edsel Ford High School, 35-14; and Fordson against Belleville, where they shut their opponents out, 17-0.
