Natalie Blazo won the individual state championship at the Division 3 girls golf finals on Saturday.
Natalie Blazo of Divine Child won the individual state championship at the Division 3 girls golf finals at Bedford Valley Golf Course in Battle Creek on Saturday, according to the MHSAA. Blazo shot a 76 in Saturday’s second round to clinch the state title. Combined with her opening round of 81, Blazo’s 36-hole total of 157 gave her a seven-stroke victory over Ayla Bogie of Clio and Cordelia Chan of Cranbrook. “My putting was great,” Blazo said in a report on the MHSAA’s Second Half website. “I made some long ones to save par.”

Evan Bowser of Dearborn High School finished second at the Division 1 golf state championship at Grand Valley State on Saturday.
Evan Bowser of Dearborn High School placed second at the Division 1 golf state finals on Saturday. Bowser, playing at the Meadows at Grand Valley State, shot a 75 in Saturday's second round to end up with a two-day total of 145. He finished four strokes behind individual state champion Matt Garland of Battle Creek Lakeview. Bowser shot a 70 in Friday's first round.

One player and one team prepare for finals this week, while two of Dearborn's football teams look to secure their spots in the playoffs
Postseason play inches nearer for all fall sports, with regionals and finals just around the corner for some. Here's a look at where some of Dearborn's teams are at this week: Football With just a few games left in the regular season, playoff runs are on the line for two of Dearborn's varsity football teams. Dearborn High and Fordson are each just one win away from making the playoffs, and both sport records of 5-2 so far this season. The Pioneers travel to Dearborn Heights Robichaud on Friday at 7 p.m., while Fordson will play at Redford Thurston at the same time. Junior golfer shoots 91 at regional tournament.
Divine Child junior golfer Natalie Blazo qualified for the state finals after her strong showing at the Division 3 regional tournament at Orchard Lake Country Club on Thursday, according to mhsaa.com. Blazo shot a 91 to earn the third and final individual spot in the state finals. Her teammate, Amanda Andryslak, also shot a 91 but missed out on qualifying for the finals. Divine Child finished ninth as a team at the regional tournament. The top three teams and the top three individuals advance to the state finals. Big tournaments, and the start of regional matchups make this one exciting week for high school sports.
With most regional games less than a month away (and some starting this week!), it's time for Dearborn teams to ramp up their efforts in preparation for making state championship runs. Here are the games and teams we're watching this week. Girls Golf Regionals take place this week for Dearborn's girls golf teams. Dearborn High plays at Northville's Tanglewood Golf Course on Thursday, while Edsel Ford heads to Farmington Hills' Fox Hills on Friday. Finally, Divine Child's team plays at Orchard Lake Country Club on Thursday as well. The FORE golf outing at the TPC Michigan is expected to net thousands for the Dearborn Education Foundation.
UPDATE, Oct. 7: The final numbers are in–FORE Dearborn 2011 raised over $95,000 for Dearborn Public Schools, according to the Dearborn Education Foundation. "This is almost double from what was raised last year," said Executive Director Eddie Fakhoury. "Proceeds from this effort will go to fund opportunities and resources throughout the new school year." Dearborn High, Edsel Ford and Divine Child's girls golf teams gathered Tuesday at the Dearborn Country Club to decide who is the city champ.
The course was wet, but that didn't deter any of the varisty golfers who headed out to play Tuesday at the Dearborn Country Club. The All-City Tournament, which took place all day Tuesday, is a big one on the schedule–and there was mich more at stake than just shooting a good round. In fact, school pride and spirit were on the line as teams from Dearborn High, Edsel Ford and Divine Child teed up for the annual tournament. Finishing statistics were not immediately available. One month into the fall sports season, things have really started to heat up. Intense rivalries, tough losses and triumphant comebacks are all par for the course as Dearborn's high school sports teams look to make state championship runs. Here's a look at the games we're watching this week. Football - The Last Rivalry While Dearborn High's team takes a trip out of town this week to battle Elkhart Central High School on Friday (a game that, if won, will secure their spot in the playoffs), Edsel Ford and Fordson will face off for the last of the regular season's in-city football rivalries.
