The Dearborn Hockey Association will hold its first-ever Recognition Dinner on Thursday, March 14, in the Hubbard Ballroom of the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center. The social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m., with buffet dinner starting at 6 p.m., and the program to follow. The Center is located at 15801 Michigan Ave. in Dearborn. The Dearborn Hockey Association hosts boys and girls hockey teams for a variety of ages and skill levels. They play out of the Dearborn Ice Skating Center. During the Recognition Dinner, the association—in partnership with the coaches—will present awards to the most improved player of each team. The Motor City Brass Band will host their annual Motor City Festival of Bands March 10 in Dearborn.

A March 6 fundraiser will help raise funds for the Cannizzaro children, who lost both of their parents in 2012.
An upcoming dinner will continue the outpouring of support for a Dearborn family facing tremendous hardship. The Dearborn Community Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser, set for March 6, will raise funds for the Cannizzaro family. The event will take place from 4-8 p.m. at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center, located at 15801 Michigan Ave. in Dearborn. In December 2012, Nikki Cannizzaro lost her battle with cancer. About a month later, on Jan. 20, the three Cannizzaro children lost their father, Ray, to a pulmonary embolism. Audiences can check out "Becoming Charlie" and "Winnerman" this May.
Every year, members of Dearborn High School's student video program—WDHS, under the direction of teacher Kurt Doelle—show off a year of hard work to the community in a feature film presentation. And this year, audiences will get double the entertainment. WDHS this month announced that the class of writer, videographers, actors, directors and editors in the making will be showcasing two films to the community this May. Becoming Charlie is a drama based on the true story of a Dearborn High student (and WDHS alumni) who lost his parents, and had to fight to gain stability for himself and his sibling. Winnerman is a comedy that tackles the subject of bullying, where a high school football player risks his popularity to help a "nerdy" friend …

If one is good, then two is twice as good. That’s the philosophy behind the Dearborn Recreation Department’s decision to offer a pair of the always popular Daddy-Daughter Dances on Feb. 9 at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center. The first Daddy-Daughter Dance will run from 2-4:30 p.m. and the second from 6:30-9 p.m. This year’s theme is “a fairy tale princess ball.” Both dances—targeted for girls ages 12 and under—will feature music, door prizes, keepsakes for the daughters, pizza, cake, soda pop and much more. Tickets, priced at $15 per person, are on sale at the Ford Community and Performing Center Box Office, and must be purchased no later than February 6.
