Ibrahim Baydoun has agreed to a new contract with school administrators for the 2013-2014 season.
A group of parents thanked the Dearborn Public Schools Board of Education on Monday for saving the job of a basketball coach who they said changed their children's lives. Ibrahim Baydoun was reinstated as varsity basketball coach at Edsel Ford High School for the 2013-2014 academic year after being unexpectedly removed from his position last week. Baydoun was one of three candidates that went before a committee appointed by Edsel Ford Principal Scott Casebolt to apply for the position on May 9. The school declined to comment on why the committee voted to replace Baydoun after more than a decade of leading the program. By Leslie Herrick Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart's classic musical Babes in Arms will take over the stage at Edsel Ford High School at 7 p.m., April 18-20. The plot follows a group of young theater apprentices and their conviction to mount the original revue they've created while dodging the underhanded attempts of the surly theater owner to squash their efforts at every turn. Further complications are provided by the overbearing stage mother of a beautiful ex-child star and the inflated ego of a southern playwright. But of course the show must go on, and so it does in a resolution of comeuppance, reconciliation, and romance. The departments will raise money for Michigan charities on March 19 at Edsel Ford High School.
Edsel Ford High School students and staff, along with police officers and firefighters from the city of Dearborn, will battle for bragging rights in a friendly wheelchair basketball tournament on Tuesday. Tip-off begins at 7 p.m., when the police and firefighters will play against teachers from Edsel Ford and The Michigan Thunderbirds, a professional wheelchair team. "It's always a good time," firefighter Jeff Powelll said. "We raise anywhere from $500 to $800 for wheelchair athletes in Michigan." Powell said originally the game served as a fundraiser for the Dearborn Firefighters Burn Drive, but in recent years, players invited athletes paralyzed from the waste down to participate in the tournament. The Michigan High School Athletic Association and PlayOn! Sports are kicking off a new winter sports initiative on Comcast, including a Dearborn girls' basketball game.
The Michigan High School Athletic Association and PlayOn! Sports are making it easier to catch a high school sporting event by airing 17 winter events on Comcast—including an Edsel Ford High School girls' basketball game. The game, against rivals Redford Thurston, will air on Jan. 22 at 7 and 9:30 p.m., with additional replays throughout the following week. Xfinity subscribers can also watch the games online at Xfinity.com/HighSchoolSports. Highlights will also be available on the Xfinity On Demand service. Now you've got a chance to prove it. The Michigan High School Athletic Association is hosting its second annual Battle of the Fans and is ready to highlight the best student cheering sections across Michigan. To enter, follow these rules: The MHSAA Student Advisory Council will choose five finalists. MHSAA officials will visit each school on a Friday game night to see the fan section in person. The annual basketball tournament is held to raise funds for the Karmanos Cancer Institute.
Edsel Ford High School hosted the annual Guido Showcase on Wednesday. The annual Dearborn-based tournament raises funds for the Karmanos Cancer Institute. in memory of former Dearborn Mayor Michael Guido, who passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2006. Basketball teams from Dearborn High, Fordson High, Edsel Ford and Divine Child competed against other area schools in the tournament. The showcase is usually held over two days during the district's winter break, but was condensed to one. According to the Detroit Free Press, Ali Farhat—playing with the Pioneers—was the stand-out player of the day. Purchasing everyone's favorite holiday plant can also help Dearborn students protect a natural sanctuary at their school this winter. Edsel Ford High School students are hosting a Poinsettia sale, the proceeds of which will go toward providing food and bedding for animals in the school's "Thornley Court." The natural preserve is home to all sorts of animals— squirrels, ducks and rabbits, ducks, and even peacocks. According to Dearborn Public Schools, the Environmental Science classes take care of the courtyard during the year and hold an annual Poinsettia sale to help with their mission.
