Natalie Blazo of Divine Child won the individual state championship at the Division 3 girls golf finals at Bedford Valley Golf Course in Battle Creek on Saturday, according to the MHSAA. Blazo shot a 76 in Saturday’s second round to clinch the state title. Combined with her opening round of 81, Blazo’s 36-hole total of 157 gave her a seven-stroke victory over Ayla Bogie of Clio and Cordelia Chan of Cranbrook. “My putting was great,” Blazo said in a report on the MHSAA’s Second Half website. “I made some long ones to save par.”

The students at Divine Child High School were Friday morning when Channel 4’s Friday Football Frenzy visited the school to hype the Falcons’ football game against Detroit Country Day. WDIV-TV’s Ashlee Baracy interviewed Falcons coach Steve Robb before cameras panned out to the student body. Divine Child posted photos of the Football Frenzy visit to the school’s Facebook page. Divine Child, which is 2-1 overall, hosts Detroit Country Day on Friday at 7 p.m. Country Day also is 2-1. Dearborn’s other high school football teams also will be in action this weekend. Divine Child falls to undefeated Goodrich in the Class B girls basketball state semifinals.
Divine Child’s quest for a second straight girls basketball championship fell just short. Divine Child lost to unbeaten Goodrich 68-53 in the Class B state semifinals on Friday in the Breslin Center at East Lansing. Divine Child, the defending Class B state champion, had defeated Marshall in the state quarterfinals earlier in the week. Goodrich (27-0 overall record) will play Grand Rapids Catholic Central in the Class B state championship game on Saturday at 6 p.m. For a boxscore of the game, click here.

The Falcons are flying high in the girls basketball state tournament once again. Divine Child kept rolling in the playoffs and claimed a Class B regional championship with a 56-33 victory over New Boston Huron on Thursday at Carleton Airport, according to mhsaa.com. The Falcons won the Class B state championship last year. With Thursday’s victory, Divine Child advances to the Class B state quarterfinals, where the Falcons will play Marshall on March 13 at 7 p.m. at Ann Arbor Skyline. Divine Child has an overall record of 23-2. Marshall is 19-6. Meanwhile, Dearborn Edsel Ford’s tournament run is over after an 83-62 loss to defending state champion Inkster in a Class A regional final at Ypsilanti Lincoln. Edsel Ford lost despite 21 points …

Two wrestlers from Dearborn high schools will compete in the individual wrestling state finals this week at the Palace in Auburn Hills. Arfan Kathem of Dearborn High School will compete at 145 pounds in the Division 1 finals starting Thursday. Kathem, who enters with a record of 41-8, will take on Dominic Latora of Portage Central. Latora is 44-5 this season. In Division 2, Jamie Jakes of Divine Child will wrestle at 152 pounds. Jakes, who has a 48-3 record this season, will face Jorden Thomson of Corunna in the first round. Thomson is 28-7. Jakes is No. 6 in the state rankings done by michigangrappler.com. A third Dearborn resident will be wrestling in state finals as well.
