The sun is shining brightly over Dearborn today, but a wintry mix is predicted starting late Thursday night.
In the battle of spring vs. winter this week in Dearborn, winter is about to take the lead. Forecasters from the National Weather Service are calling for a chance of snow and freezing drizzle overnight. A "Hazardous Weather Statement" issued Thursday calls for a the freezing rain to develop after midnight in areas north of I-94, including most of Dearborn. There is a 90 percent chance of snow and freezing rain on Friday. "A fast-moving storm system will bring accumulating snowfall late Friday afternoon through Friday night," the statement reads. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the area.
A winter storm is now expected to bring 3-6 inches of snow to the Dearborn area Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. The NWS issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the area, in effect from 3 p.m. Tuesday through noon on Wednesday. Earlier predictions estimated the level of snowfall for the area to be anywhere from 3-10 inches. However, the NWS explained that though precipitation will begin to fall earlier on Tuesday, it will start out as rain, turn into sleet, and eventually a “heavy, wet snow” later in the day. A winter snow storm is expected to hit the area Tuesday.
The sun will be shining and the temperature rising on Monday in Dearborn, but don't let it fool you: Winter isn't over yet. Predictions from the National Weather Service are calling for as much as nine inches of snow in the Dearborn area this week as a winter storm moves into the southeast Michigan region on Tuesday. A Winter Storm Watch was issued for the area for Tuesday, though NWS said as of Sunday that it's unclear exactly which areas will get the heaviest snowfall. According to NWS, the storm will likely start as a mixture of rain and snow and turn into just snow by 4 p.m. Tuesday. Dearborn is under a hazardous weather outlook Friday, along with other parts of southeast Michigan. The National Weather Service is predicting a burst of snow that will expand northeast across our area between 6 and 11 a.m. The snow is expected to fall in a two- to three-hour period, resulting in 1-2 inches of snow, according to the NWS. There is also the possibility of freezing drizzle Friday afternoon and evening that may continue through Saturday. Dearborn can expect a chance of snow after 5 a.m. After noon, there may be rain and snow showers possibly mixed with freezing drizzle. The high will be near 35, with wind gusts as high as 21 miles per hour.

High winds and snow flurries are expected to continue throughout the day.
A strong cold front in southeastern Michigan has brought high winds and lower temperatures to the region Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. A Wind Advisory is in effect for the region—including Dearborn—until 7 p.m. Tuesday. Winds are expected to pick up throughout the day, with "frequent" gusts as high as 45 miles per hour. The passage of a cold front through southern Michigan will bring strong southwest winds to the region Monday, according to the National Weather Service. A Wind Advisory is in effect for the region—including Dearborn—from 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday. Winds are expected to pick up throughout the day, ranging from 25 miles per hour to as high as 50 miles per hour in the afternoon and early evening. The good news is that the winds won't be bitterly cold, thanks to an above-average high temperature of 45 degrees Monday. There is a slight chance of snow showers throughout the day. Ready for more snow?
Forecasts call for between 2-5 inches in Dearborn starting Thursday evening, and a Winter Storm Watch will be in effect through Friday morning. According to a hazardous weather outlook and winter weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service, a strengthening low pressure system will move into the southern Great Lakes region on Thursday. The heaviest snow is expected Thursday evening after 8 p.m., according to the NWS. Snow may mix with sleet at times, but overall is expected to result in 1-3 inches of snow accumulation overnight. More snow fell on Dearborn Saturday, but is it a winter wonderland or a slippery mess?
Love it or hate it, the snow just keeps coming. Dearborn got yet another substantial covering of the white stuff Saturday, just as residents had finished shoveling the snowfall from several days before. Snow is expected to continue to fall Sunday and into Monday, with accumulations of an inch or two possible each day. Will the snow ever end? More importantly, do you want it to? The story of southeast Michigan's wild January weather continues tonight, as forecasters call for a 40-degree temperature drop accompanied by high winds and snow. In the Dearborn area — as in all across southeast Michigan — we've experienced snow, sleet, rain, fog and even thunder this week. Temperatures hit near the mid-50s Wednesday in Dearborn. But tonight, according to the National Weather Service, temperatures are expected to drop to the low 20s. There is a 40 percent chance of rain or snow in Dearborn Wednesday afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service has issued warnings due to warming temperatures and as much as an inch of rain expected Tuesday.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch from Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning for a portion of southeast Michigan, including Dearborn. The bulletin issued Monday afternoon indicated that warm temperatures on Tuesday will lead to a melting of 3 to 6 inches of packed snow. A frost depth of nearly 15 inches will prevent the water from being absorbed into the soil. Additionally, more than an inch of rain is expected to fall Tuesday across the area. In Dearborn, this is most likely to affect low-lying areas near the Rouge River—such as Ford Field Park and Telegraph Road underneath the Michigan Avenue overpass.
