Dearborn Tax Help Available for Low Income Residents, Seniors

Services will be available at a number of locations Feb. 5-April 12.

Dearborn residents with low to moderate-incomes can receive free help from volunteers in preparing tax forms beginning on Feb. 5. Special attention is given to those ages 60 and older. This service is offered by the City of Dearborn’s Senior Services Division. Assistance is available in completing the following 2012 tax forms: Michigan Home Heating Credit, Michigan Homestead Property Tax Credit, State Income Tax and Federal Income Tax. Assistance will be provided at the locations, dates and times listed below. No appointment is necessary; however assistance is available to approximately 25 people each day on a first-come, first-served basis. When Can I File My 2012 Tax Return?

The IRS has announced a delayed start to the 2012 tax filing season. Here's the date of when you can file, plus some help in Dearborn to get your taxes done.

You'll have to wait if you are used to filing your annual tax return at the earliest possible date. The Internal Revenue Service has revised its opening date for tax season—pushing it eight days to Jan. 30. The tax filing deadline is Monday, April 15. The IRS will begin accepting tax returns on Jan. 30. Most taxpayers should be able to file on that date, though some revised forms may not be immediately available.
