Bridge demolition work this weekend will require the closure of a section of I-94 near Dearborn, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. Bridge demolition on a section of the West Grand Boulevard overpass will result in the full closure of eastbound I-94 from Michigan Avenue to I-96. The closure will begin at 9 p.m. Friday and end by 5 a.m. Monday. All entrance ramps within the closure limits will also be closed. MDOT recommends that eastbound traffic redirect to take northbound M-39 to eastbound I-96 to rejoin eastbound I-94 at the I-96 interchange. The sewer separation project is expected to be completed in 2013.
Dearborn construction stemming from the city's sewer separation project has passed the six-month mark, and while the orange barrels, dusty roads and piles of gravel have become a familiar sight, the project is far from over. The area currently effected by construction is cordoned off by Telegraph Road, Cherry Hill, Marshall and Outer Drive. While this is a sizable area, the construction there is actually only the first stage of a six-stage plan that isn't expected to be completed until 2024, with the other five stages targeting different areas of the city in need of sewer separation. The Dearborn road project will take around 30 working days to finish, according to Wayne County.
Construction began Monday, July 16, on an asphalt resurfacing project that will affect Dearborn drivers for a little over a month. According to the Wayne County Roads Division, the resurfacing will occur on Greenfield Road between Warren Avenue and Tireman Road. The project involves curb and pavement repairs, as well as laying new asphalt. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction during construction. County staff say it will take approximately 30 working days to finish the project, pending weather conditions or other delays. The Wayne County Roads Division will be milling and resurfacing select entrance and exit ramps on M-39 on Saturday, July 14, from 12 a.m. to 9 p.m. The areas affected are the northbound M-39 entrance and exit ramps to Ford Road, as well as the northbound M-39 entrance and exit ramps to Joy Road. Alternately, the westbound I-94 ramps to the Southfield Freeway are set to reopen this week.
When one ramp closes, another ramp opens. OK, that's now how the saying goes. But that is the case for ongoing construction work on the I-94/M-39 interchange. According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, the ramps from eastbound I-94 to southbound M-39 (Southfield Freeway) and from eastbound I-94 to Pelham Road will close beginning at 4 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, for ongoing bridge work. The ramps are expected to reopen in mid-June. Conversely, the westbound I-94 ramp to southbound M-39, and the westbound I-94 ramp to Pelham Road, are both expected to reopen on Tuesday, May 8. Construction on the Southfield Freeway/I-94 interchange will affect Dearborn area drivers this week, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. Starting Tuesday, April 3, and ending Thursday, April 5, the two left lanes of southbound M-39 will close nightly from Oakwood Boulevard to I-94. The closures will be in effect from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning. According to MDOT, the double lane closures are needed for ongoing bridge work at the interchange. Additionally, on Tuesday, the northbound M-39 Service Drive will be closed at Village Road from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. for sign replacement work.
