Resident Sheila Brooks is the grand prize winner of the 2013 Burn Drive and car raffle.
What driver would not want to win a new car? Wednesday, that dream came true for one lucky Dearborn resident. Hundreds of people crossed their fingers at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center during the annual Dearborn Firefighters Burn Drive in hopes of winning a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro. In the end, however, it was resident Sheila Brooks who won the coveted prize. According to event organizer Steve Worden, roughly 1,500 tickets were sold for the annual car raffle, whose proceeds benefit sick and injured children in the community. "Things went great. We had a nice crowd and all the money goes back to help the kids," he said. More than 25 prizes were given out courtesy of local businesses, including Park Place Caterers, Joe's Top Dog …

One lucky winner will receive a brand new 2013 Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible on May 1.
There's a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible parked outside Les Stanford Chevrolet, and the Dearborn Fire Department plans to send it home with a lucky winner on May 1. The 27th annual Dearborn Firefighters Burn Drive and Car Raffle is less than a week away, and organizers say there are still a few coveted $50 tickets left. The ticket guarantees admission to the fundraiser, an open bar, food, live music by Dearborn Patch Editor Daniel Lai and "Delirious Love," and a chance of winning one of 24 prizes, including Detroit Tigers tickets, electronics, and vacation packages. A March 6 fundraiser will help raise funds for the Cannizzaro children, who lost both of their parents in 2012.
An upcoming dinner will continue the outpouring of support for a Dearborn family facing tremendous hardship. The Dearborn Community Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser, set for March 6, will raise funds for the Cannizzaro family. The event will take place from 4-8 p.m. at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center, located at 15801 Michigan Ave. in Dearborn. In December 2012, Nikki Cannizzaro lost her battle with cancer. About a month later, on Jan. 20, the three Cannizzaro children lost their father, Ray, to a pulmonary embolism. Now, their grandmother, Shirley Sironen, has stepped up to raise the three children—Michael, Chastity and Drako. “I don’t need anything, I have all I need," commented Sironen. "I just want to be able to provide the …

The Oakwood Center for Exceptional Families got a visit from Santa (and his firefighter helpers), bearing plenty of gifts to go around.
A play set for Abigail, a doll for Katie, cars for Logan—Christmas came early to the children served by the Oakwood Center for Exceptional Families, thanks to the generous support of Dearborn firefighters. Members of the fire department dropped off armfuls of toys Tuesday to the center, which serves thousands of youth with special needs throughout the region. Toys were purchased with funds raised through their Dearborn Firefighters Burn Drive charity. The Burn Drive raises funds to help families in need all year long, but their toy drop is a particularly special event, when firefighters get to personally hand over toys to children at the CEF and several other locations. CEF Medical Director Dr. Susan Youngs says it's by far the best day of…

A pumpkin patch, open house and charity hockey game will all raise funds this month for the Dearborn Firefighters Burn Drive.
Forget the World Series, and the University of Michigan-Michigan State football game. This week's biggest sporting rivalry will pit Dearborn teachers against firefighters–and no matter what the outcome, it's sure to be a win for both groups' charities. The Dearborn firefighters hockey team, will play host to a team of educators hitting the ice on behalf of the Dearborn Education Foundation on Oct. 15 at the University of Michigan-Dearborn Field House. Proceeds from the game will be split evenly between the foundation and the Firefighters Burn Drive. Fireman Mike Mattern, who plays on the team, said it's the first time they've taken on teachers for charity, but he expects it to be an exciting game. "The game is free, but donations will be …
