Credit Union Marks $100K in Donations to Dearborn Education Foundation

The final $10,000 of the 10-year contribution was given to the nonprofit this month.

How does a business truly make an impact in the community they serve?  For Dearborn Federal Credit Union, the answer comes with a 10 year, $100,000 partnership with the Dearborn Education Foundation. A decade ago, the DFCU leadership team decided to make a strong commitment to education in the Dearborn community. A milestone in that commitment was realized this month when Theresa Fox, Caryn Solferino and the rest of the DFCU team presented DEF Executive Director Eddie Fakhoury with their annual $10,000 check placing them at the $100,000 level of giving. Party For Dearborn Education at the Mardi Gras Fundraiser

The annual event is hosted by the Dearborn Education Foundation.

The Dearborn Education Foundation is bringing Mardi Gras to Michigan with its annual fundraiser. The annual event takes place at the Dearborn Hills Golf Course on Tuesday, Feb. 12, from 3:30-9 p.m. It includes live music, food and a silent auction. Plus it's the last chance to purchase a ticket for the DEF's Big Shot Raffle—a $1,000 raffle ticket with a $50,000 payout to the winner.  This years silent auction will include such items as tickets to see the Detroit Tigers, hotel packages, laptops, a wine tasting party, handmade items, and autographed merchandise. This event raises tens of thousands of dollars to help fund grant requests made by the teachers in Dearborn Public Schools. Their needs range from musical instruments and math and …

Thousands in Donations Accepted for Dearborn Public Schools

The Dearborn Board of Education announced the donations at their Monday night meeting.

More than $15,000 in donations of funds and technology products were announced Monday at the Dearborn Board of Education meeting. From a Promethean Board at Nowlin Elementary to funds for a new scoreboard at Edsel Ford High School, donations will be used mainly for technological advances in Dearborn's classroooms. Dearborn Education Foundation Raises $200K in 2012 for Schools

The foundation provides $110,000 in teacher grants that support classroom projects and technological needs.

The Dearborn Education Foundation’s efforts to generate funds for special projects and teacher grants for the 19,000-student Dearborn Public Schools yielded positive results in 2012, according to Eddie Fakhoury, the foundation’s executive director. In a presentation before the Dearborn Board of Education last week, Fakhoury announced that the foundation has raised nearly $200,000 this year to benefit students. “Our success is a reflection of our Board of Directors, our community at large, our mayor and our superintendent and all of the work they do to support us as well as the board and our students and teachers,” he said. “So it is our story, but it really is the story of the entire district.” Although the 2012 fiscal year final numbers …

Dearborn Education Foundation to Host Big Shot Raffle

Tickets are $1,000 each, and the winner could receive as much as $50,000.

In honor of its 20th anniversary, the Dearborn Public Schools Education Foundation is holding the Big Shot 50/50 Raffle. Between now and Dec. 12, 100 tickets will be sold at a price of $1,000 each, making the winning ticket worth $50,000. With only 100 tickets in play, this raffle offers groups from across southeast Michigan their best shot at a big payoff. Plus, every investment of $1,000 supports the DPSEF, a local non-profit with a focus on funding classroom tools, student activities and school upgrades in Dearborn Public Schools. Dearborn Education Foundation Awards Scholarships to 3 Local Teens

The Metzler Scholarship is funded by Dearborn residents Richard and Doris Metzler.

Three Dearborn teens were honored recently by the Dearborn Education Foundation for their exemplary commitment to community service with the awarding of the Metzler Scholarship. Started by Dearborn residents Richard and Doris Metzler, the scholarship is awarded to one graduating senior at each of the district's three high schools. The winners are those who write the most compelling essay about their community service experiences. The 2012 winners were Omar Bahalwan from Fordson High School, Yara Fakhoury from Dearborn High School, and Kim Le from Edsel Ford High School. The scholarship comes from the couple's belief in community service. Richard Metzler was a Ford Motor Company employee, and Doris Metzler was a Dearborn Public Schools …

Save the Date! City, Schools Golf Outing Set for Sept. 30

FORE Dearborn raises funds for Dearborn Public Schools.

World-class golf and local fundraising combine with the planned return of the FORE Dearborn golf outing. The 2012 outing is planned for Sept. 30 at the Tournament Players Club of Michigan. FORE stands for Funding Opportunities and Resources in Education–in other words, funds raised will go to help pay for supplies, updates and initiatives at Dearborn's 32 public schools. The golf outing is coordinated by the nonprofit Dearborn Education Foundation. However, it is unique in that the event is co-chaired by Dearborn Public Schools Supt. Ford Donation to Dearborn Schools Helping Students Make Strides on Computers

The Dearborn Education Foundation reports that computers purchased with the $25,000 donation are helping improve classroom technology.

A $25,000 donation made to Dearborn Public Schools for the 2011-12 school year is paying off in the classroom, according to the Dearborn Education Foundation. The donation from Ford was used to pay for equipment and upgrades at the Michael Berry Career Center's computer lab, which prepares students for high-tech careers in engineering, design and manufacturing. According to a statement from the DEF, "The select groups of students that go through this program have chosen to pursue high tech fields of study in areas of engineering, various areas of technology, biology and physics." Mardi Gras Party Nets $25,000 for Dearborn Education Foundation

The Feb. 14 event raised funds for grant requests at Dearborn Public Schools.

For the Dearborn Education Foundation, Mardi Gras was about much more than colorful masks or indulging in treats. The Dearborn nonprofit, which supplies Dearborn Public Schools classrooms with much-needed grant funding, celebrated its annual Mardi Gras Party on Feb. 14. It raised over $25,000, Executive Director Eddie Fakhoury announced Monday. The event took place at the Dearborn Hills Golf Course banquet center, and provided an evening of food, fun, music and prizes for local school employees, students, parents, business owners and city leaders.
