According to the City of Dearborn, the city's Department of Public Works will generally send out plows when any more than 3-4 inches of snow falls within a short period of time, and depending on weather forecasts. Residents can bring documents to shred to the DPW Yard.
Shred Corporation will sponsor a free document shedding day for Dearborn residents this Saturday. The event will run from 8 a.m. to noon at the City of Dearborn DPW Yard, located at 2951 Greenfield Rd. south of Rotunda Drive. This event is open to Dearborn residents only. Proof of residency is required. The limit is a maximum of 50 pounds, or five office sized boxes of residential paper documents per person. For information on the event, call 313-943-2085.

The Departments of Public Works and Residential Services plan to combine their home inspection divisions.
Inspectors currently working under the Dearborn Department of Public Works’ Neighborhood Services division could soon be moving under the umbrella of Residential Services, according to a budget plan presented to the city Thursday evening at City Hall. The shift of five full-time and 10 part-time employees may seem insignificant, but could go a long way in making the inspection of homes and identification of violations more efficient for residents and the city. Beginning Feb. 15, and for a limited time, Dearborn residents can order affordable trees that will be planted on the easement in front of their homes. The City of Dearborn encourages the planting of trees as a way to keep neighborhoods attractive, reduce energy consumption and support a healthier environment. The annual spring tree planting program is open to Dearborn residents only. Trees for 2012 cost $175 each, and the supply of trees for the program is limited. Trees range in size from eight to 10 feet in height and are sold on a first come, first served basis through Dearborn’s Department of Public Works. Residents can choose from an assortment of trees.
