Lovejoy has served for the past 14 years in several capacities with Davenport University, including director of job development, director of the Romeo and Oxford campuses, admissions training manager, and most recently regional employment and internship manager. Village Picture Frame & Art Gallery celebrated its grand re-opening in Dearborn with friends and customers on May 3. A ceremonial ribbon cutting took place outside the store, located at 22191 Michigan Ave. The business has been a longtime staple of the downtown Dearborn community, and moved from its previous location at 2223 Michigan Ave. at the beginning of March. Prior to that, the store was located for 25 years at 1026 Monroe St. Store Manager Alicia Clark-Teper said business has been growing since the business reopened in the new location. Beginning in the fall, qualifying juniors will be eligible to obtain an associate’s degree for free.
Dearborn Public Schools will soon offer students a chance to graduate with a high school diploma and an associate's degree through a new "early college" partnership with Henry Ford Community College. Beginning in the 2013-2014 academic year, students who attend one of the district’s three high schools — Edsel Ford, Fordson or Dearborn High — have the option of enrolling in a five-year program. "The idea is that it's a school within a school," said Dr. Gail Shenkman, associate superintendent of secondary education. More than 100 businesses will interview job candidates at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center on April 4.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce and other local organizations to host a job fair for military veterans and their spouses on April 4. The event is part of the Chamber’s nationwide “Hiring Our Heroes” initiative. More than 300 hiring fairs in 49 states and the District of Columbia have been held, and more than 14,000 veterans and military spouses have received jobs.
