Tafelski Tells Residents Unhappy with City Hall Sale: Voice Your Anger at the Ballot Box

Dearborn's City Council President has been vocal about his opposition to pending sale of City Hall to Artspace.

Whenever an issue concerning the sale of Dearborn City Hall or development of Artspace comes before Dearborn City Council—as it did during their Sept. 11 meeting—President Tom Tafelski’s vote resounds as the sole “no” in the lineup of city officials. An outspoken opponent of the sale of City Hall to the Artspace group—which plans to develop the building into live-work space for local artists—Tafelski said this week that he'll stand his ground on the issue even as the sale moves forward. “We have plenty of other vacant buildings that we should have swayed or strongly suggested to Artspace,” he said. “I don’t care about getting voted into office … when it’s something I feel strongly about, I will not sit on my hand.” He asked the same of …

I love the idea of using the Bryant branch library for the art space. There's no one in that tiny library space anyway. Re-open Snow library which is in the middle of a neighborhood and was utilized by lots of people & children every day.   more ›
