Lane and ramp closures on I-94 and the Southfield Freeway could affect driving for Dearborn area drivers this weekend, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. Eastbound and westbound I-94 will have only one lane open between Michigan Avenue and I-96 between 9 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday for ongoing resurfacing and bridge work. Construction on I-94 near Telegraph Road and Southfield will affect Dearborn-area drivers this weekend.
Several construction projects will result in lane and ramp closures on I-94 near Dearborn, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. On Friday, the left lane of eastbound I-94 will be closed at Ecorse Road from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. for sign work. Also on Friday, the right lane of Pelham Road will close between Van Born and I-94 for ramp work. That closure will end June 18. The ramp from Pelham Road to eastbound I-94 will also close beginning at 5 a.m. Saturday and ending at 7 p.m. Sunday. Lastly, the westbound I-94 ramp onto Telegraph Road will close intermitently from 6 a.m.-9 a.m. on Sunday for sign work. Alternately, the westbound I-94 ramps to the Southfield Freeway are set to reopen this week.
When one ramp closes, another ramp opens. OK, that's now how the saying goes. But that is the case for ongoing construction work on the I-94/M-39 interchange. According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, the ramps from eastbound I-94 to southbound M-39 (Southfield Freeway) and from eastbound I-94 to Pelham Road will close beginning at 4 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, for ongoing bridge work. The ramps are expected to reopen in mid-June. Conversely, the westbound I-94 ramp to southbound M-39, and the westbound I-94 ramp to Pelham Road, are both expected to reopen on Tuesday, May 8. A public survey and comment session led officials to the decision that complete shut-down is preferable to lane closures.
After months of outreach–including a public meeting and an online survey–the Michigan Department of Transportation on Monday announced that the reconstruction of I-96 in the communities of Livonia and Redford Township will be done under a complete freeway closure. While details are still being finalized, the 7-mile stretch of the freeway between Newburgh and Telegraph roads is scheduled to close in early 2014. MDOT says that two lanes of northbound M-39 will be closed between 5 a.m.-7 p.m. between Allen and Van Born roads. Southbound M-39 will have two lanes closed during the same time period from Fern to I-94. The construction is due to ongoing bridge and structural work at the I-94/M-39 interchange. Dearborn-area drivers should watch for traffic backups on Wednesday and Thursday.
As part of continued construction to the area surrounding the I-94/M-39 interchange, the Michigan Department of Transportation announced more lane closures this week that will affect Dearborn-area drivers. From 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, westbound I-94 from M-39 to Telegraph Road will have a single lane closure. On Thursday, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., westbound I-94 will have a single lane closure from Beech Daly to Inkster. The construction is not expected to cause severe traffic backups. A sidewalk curb project will cause the Michigan Department of Transportation to close lanes on US-12 in Dearborn.
Construction will start Monday, April 16, on a project to make sidewalk curbs on Michigan Avenue and Telegraph Road compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The construction will affect Dearborn drivers. The $550,000 project of the Michigan Department of Transportation will require intermittent single-lane closures. The US-12 project, between Brady Street and Outer Drive, and the US-24 work, between Joy and Plymouth roads, will begin as early as Monday. All work is expected to be completed by July. Construction on the Southfield Freeway/I-94 interchange will affect Dearborn area drivers this week, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. Starting Tuesday, April 3, and ending Thursday, April 5, the two left lanes of southbound M-39 will close nightly from Oakwood Boulevard to I-94. The closures will be in effect from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning. According to MDOT, the double lane closures are needed for ongoing bridge work at the interchange. Additionally, on Tuesday, the northbound M-39 Service Drive will be closed at Village Road from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. for sign replacement work. The Michigan Department of Transportation sent out several updates this weekend on construction projects that will affect Dearborn area drivers. Sign foundation work will require the closure of the northbound Southfield Service Drive from Village Road to Michigan Avenue between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Monday. The ramp from eastbound Michigan Avenue to northbound M-39 will be closed during the same time frame. The closure will follow the reopening of two lanes of northbound M-39 between Allen Road and Outer Drive, which will reopen at 5 a.m. Monday. A bridge and pavement repair project at the I-94/M-39 interchange will start March 12 and continue until fall.
A $13.8 million project encompassing bridge and pavement repair will affect Dearborn-area drivers starting Monday, March 12. According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, roadwork near the I-94/M-39 (Southfield Freeway) interchange will begin Monday.
