The Michigan Department of Transportation cited road work this weekend on local freeways and roads.
Wayne County motorists can expect delays this weekend on Interstate 94, as construction will prompt a lane closure between Moross Avenue to French Road. According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, I-94 westbound will have a single-lane closure from 9 p.m.-9 a.m. Friday and Saturday for lighting and sign work between the two roads. Both directions of Telegraph Road between Van Horn and West roads will also have single-lane closures beginning at 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Sunday for pavement work. The Michigan Department of Transportation will shut down seven miles of the freeway in 2014 for a major reconstruction.
The Michigan Department of Transportation on Monday released results of a public survey concerning the design, landscaping, and aesthetics of the reconstruction of the I-96 freeway. The $150 million project will shut down the freeway between Telegraph Road and Newburgh Road in 2014. MDOT held public meetings and conducted a survey in 2012 asking drivers to vote on whether to shut down the entire freeway—making for a shorter project, but with a larger construction impact—or to do the construction in phases. Residents voted for the former option. Motorists will find several lane closures and road construction projects in the Dearborn area this weekend. Northbound and southbound M-39 (Southfield Freeway) will be reduced to one lane under Interstate 94 from 5 a.m. Saturday until Sunday at 9 p.m. for ongoing work at the I-94/M-39 interchange, according to MDOT. The left lane on the southbound Southfield Freeway will be closed between Oakwood and I-94 from Wednesday until Oct. 24.
If you travel on the Southfield Freeway near Dearborn, be aware: construction work is ramping up Wednesday morning. Beginning Wednesday at 5 a.m., the southbound left lane of the Southfield Freeway (M-39) will be closed from Oakwood Boulevard to Interstate 94 for bridge construction, according to Dearborn police. Starting at 11 p.m. Monday night, the eastbound I-94 exit ramp to northbound M-39 will be closed for approximately three weeks. The ramp closure is needed for crews to apply epoxy sealer on the pavement and to conduct bridge painting activities. A detour will be posted. Construction this weekend on I-94 will affect Dearborn-area drivers–but not those heading to the Detroit Lions game on Sunday, the Michigan Department of Transportation confirmed this week. Divers can expect to see single lane closures from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on eastbound and westbound I-94 all weekend between I-96 and Michigan Avenue. A double lane closure will be in effect during the nighttime hours from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday in the same section of the freeway. Ramp closures on the Southfield Freeway will affect Dearborn area drivers this Saturday, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. The Wayne County Roads Division will be milling and resurfacing select entrance and exit ramps on M-39 on Saturday, July 14, from 12 a.m. to 9 p.m. The areas affected are the northbound M-39 entrance and exit ramps to Ford Road, as well as the northbound M-39 entrance and exit ramps to Joy Road. This will result in the closure of the right lane and ramps.
