Dearborn Patch reader Lisa Wood Rodgers asked us via Facebook: How did the city of Dearborn become the largest Arabic city in the United States? Indeed, Dearborn has the most concentrated Arab American population in the country–and the state of Michigan ranks second overall in the size of its population, too, according to the Arab American Institute. The U.S. Census estimates that more than one-third of Dearborn's population of 98,000 identify as having some Arab heritage. Many Arabs first came to America as part of the Great Migration from 1880-1924, according to the Arab American National Museum. But why Dearborn? Dearborn Patch reader Jessie McDonald asked on our Facebook page: Are there any charity runs (5K, 10K) coming up in the city? Dearborn has a number of running events–some for charity, some certified races, some just for fun. Every April, Running Fit brings the Martian Marathon to Dearborn, which includes a 5K, 10K, half marathon, full marathon and kids marathon. Registration is open and can be done at www.martianmarathon.com. The event takes place April 14, with start times beginning at 7:15 a.m. at Ford Field. The Martian Marathon donates a portion of proceeds each year to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training, which also fundraises through runners. After seeing Dearborn Patch's Dearborn: Then and Now article, a reader emailed us wanting to know how he could access historic photos of the city. Anyone can take a look at Dearborn history with a visit to the Dearborn Historical Museum's McFadden Ross House on Brady Street. There, the Floyd and Mary Haight Archives give access to "a diverse range of artifacts, photos, papers and books that reflect local families and changes in our community through time," according to the City of Dearborn website. Browsing is free; reprinting or use of photos is available for a fee. Fees are as follows: 25 cents for a black and white photocopy; $5 for a digital scan onto a blank CD or drive; $25 for a full, touched-up reproduction of any size for personal…

Dearborn Patch user sandra asked us, "I'd like some info for mall walkers at Fairlane. Do they have a club? Do they have early hours? How do you join? Where do you enter the mall to walk?" While there is no official mall-walking club at Fairlane Town Center, most walkers come from 8-10 a.m. Monday through Saturday; and 10-11 a.m. Sunday. All doors open are open at that time, so you can come in through any entrance. According to HAP health care's Metro Detroit Mall Walking Guide, one complete lap of the lower level of Fairlane is .8 miles.
