Conversation Reopened on Moving Dearborn's Arab International Festival

The City of Dearborn suggested that festival officials are discussing refreshing the annual event.

The idea of moving one of Dearborn's iconic events to a different location is again a topic of discussion amongst city officials. Mayor Jack O'Reilly said Tuesday that talks would begin soon about moving the Arab International Festival from its usual spot on Warren Avenue. "We offered this the last couple of years, and they were adamant about staying," O'Reilly said of festival organizers, led by the American Arab Chamber of Commerce. However, O'Reilly shared that changes on the organization's Executive Board also meant a change in popular opinion on the subject of moving the festival. Support for moving the festival centers around the fact that hosting the event at a closed site would protect the city from liability concerning protestors…

American Arab of the Year 2012 Awardees Announced

The American Arab Professionals Network of the American Arab Chamber of Commerce will honor local award-winners at their annual banquet on May 16.

The  American Arab Professionals Network of the American Arab Chamber of Commerce announced its 2012 American Arab of the Year Award winners Tuesday. Award recipients were named in the areas of education, finance, entrepreneurship, law and medicine. They included several Dearborn and Dearborn Heights professionals. All awardees will be honored during the AACC's annual Celebrating Success Banquet on May 16. The awardees are: The AAPN banquet brings together more than 500 Arab American professionals from southeast Michigan. Newly Formed Ethnic Council Seeks to Strengthen Diversity in Michigan Business

The Council of Ethnic Chambers of Commerce will work to support member groups and spread a message that embracing diversity is key to the state's business success.

Members of several Michigan ethnic chambers of commerce gathered Tuesday afternoon at Dearborn’s Hyatt Regency Hotel to formalize the creation of the Council of Ethnic Chambers of Commerce. “The council has been established to promote collaboration, foster strong economic leverage and expand regional business growth,” said Chairman of the council and the American Arab Chamber of Commerce Ahmad Chebbani. “We are told this is the first such ethnic council in the nation, and we’re happy to set such a great example.” The council is comprised of members of the African Business Chamber of Commerce, American Arab Chamber of Commerce, Michigan Black Chamber of Commerce, Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce, African …

All Systems Go for Arab International Festival

The city of Dearborn and the American Arab Chamber of Commerce reached a deal to allow the festival to take place in June.

The Dearborn Arab International Festival will happen as scheduled this year. Its fate once in doubt, the festival will take place June 17-19 on Warren Avenue after organizers and the city agreed to a deal, according to a press release sent out Friday evening. The American Arab Chamber of Commerce, the organizers of the festival, said it has hired a private company to assist the city with cleanup. In addition, the chamber said the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department and the Dearborn police will provide security for the event, which started in 1995 and has become a Dearborn tradition. “The festival is on schedule,” Fay Beydoun, the executive director of the American Arab Chamber of Commerce, said in the release. “We are working with the city …
