The Muskegon native is among two Red Wings set to appear at six Metro Detroit Meijer locations this season.
Red Wings fans can meet one of the team's star players Tuesday in Allen Park. Detroit Red Wings forwards Justin Abdelkader and Darren Helm are set to appear at various Meijer locations throughout the Metro Detroit area during the 2012-13 season, signing autographs and interacting with fans at six different Metro Detroit Meijer locations. Abdelkader, a Muskegon native and former Michigan State Spartan, kicked off the season-long campaign on Monday with a stop at the Canton store. On Tuesday, he'll be at the Meijer in Allen Park from 6-7 p.m. The store is located at the Fairlane Green at 3565 Fairlane Boulevard. Barnes & Noble has announced it will continue downsizing its brick and mortar operations over the next decade, though there's no word on whether that will include the Allen Park and Dearborn locations.
Less than two years after losing Borders, local bookworms could be forced to bid farewell to another Hall Road giant with the possible closure of Barnes & Noble. Facing tough online competition, Mitchell Klipper, CEO of Barnes & Noble’s retail group, told the Wall Street Journal Monday that the company plans to close at least 20 stores a year over the next 10 years. Since the closing of the Dearborn Borders store in 2011, Barnes & Noble in Allen Park is the area's only major bookstore. Additionally, B&N operates a college bookstore at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. The chain currently operates 689 stores nationally, as well as 684 college bookstroes. The Port Huron-based Innovative Teleservices is expanding to Allen Park and is hosting a second hiring event Oct. 5.
Update, Oct. 4: Innovative Teleservices will be holding a second hiring event on Oct. 5 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at its Allen Park offices. The company is still looking to fill around 100 positions. The office is located at 1000 Republic Drive, Suite 500. --------------------------------------------- Good news for job hunters came this week when Port Huron-based Innovative Teleservices announced its expansion to Allen Park. With the opening of their new office, located at 1000 Republic Drive in Allen Park, comes 150 full-time job openings for telemarketers.
