Totally agree Ken...cant believe they still get as many listings as they do!! Good luck withRead More everything!

They try to shoe horn you into a loan program that they claim is the only way to get the house. TheRead More reason for this is the loan program they push doesn't require an appraisal so your forced to believe that the price their selling it to you for is a really good one. The problem comes in after your in the home and want to refi in a few years. You order the appraisal and find out you have been sold into an upside down loan. You owe more money than the house is actually worth. Beware of anyone trying to push the Home Path loan program and if u must go with that program as it does offer 100 percent financing but you must insist on an appraisal. This is the only way to protect yourself from getting trapped into an upside down loan. ReMax is known for trying to steer customers to their financing option and their inspector and anyone else they hold sway with. Being well informed is your best option to avoid falling prey to a real estate nightmare.

If that house were to close at $104,000 it raises the market value. It does not mean you are goingRead More to be in debt. This is how market values rise in real estate; otherwise, they would never go up. The market is still a somewhat volitale. We sold our house last year to someone who paid $305,000. The same home was on the market in short sale for $240,000. Yes, that will affect market values when it closes, but it does not mean the 305 buyer paid too much. The market is improving. If you plan on staying at least 5 years or so you will see big gains. It all depends on the economy. It is such a great time to buy a house in Dearborn because the values dropped so dramatically. There will be a rise in home values esecially in Dearborn Hills and similar areas.

The bottom line Maureen is that you can't and shouldn't "trust them!" It's rare to find aRead More politician who will oppose a tax increase, at least in Dearborn anyway...
Bob June 19, 2013 at 07:02 am
The city of Dearborn should step up and do the honorable and ethical thing and pay back the moneyRead More they took from the DIA and the Detroit Zoo. First they propose a library millage of 1 mill to fund the city’s library system; it passes but then they turn around and permanently close Snow Branch Library saying they don't have the funds to support it. Now, legal or not, they have stolen money the citizens voted to go to the DIA and the Detroit Zoo. What's next?
bitsy08 June 19, 2013 at 07:44 am
Yeah, right, Bob. Like that's going to happen. But my question is how do we know they're usingRead More this money for what they legally can? And what happens if we vote in additional millage? Can they still take some of that money up to but not including the current increase? Dearborn Heights wasn't mentioned but I'd sure like to find out what they're using it for.

It's not about loving and appreciating HFCC. I am a former student/athlete of HFCC. Would I payRead More more in taxes? NO! Dearborn needs to stop asking it's residents for more money. Figure it out!
Robert Bruley June 19, 2013 at 10:28 am
It is always amazing that people write "figure it out" or "that is what your jobRead More is" rather than getting involved in the details. Very easy to talk about how you could do the job better when you do NOT know the details behind everything. These jobs are not line jobs. They have a very real existence and help the students in ways most cannot dream of. When your children attend HFCC and they do not get the help YOU expect think back at this time frame and how you responded.

If the new administration had considered the community it serves before making cuts that will hurtRead More the college in the long run I would back the millage increase. I own two homes in Dearborn, and I teach as an adjunct at the college. I fought for the millage before, but I am not certain that I will this time. Also, properties in Dearborn are now rising again - so the increase will affect us slightly more. As an instructor, many of the cuts he has made will affect the various disciplines taught on many levels.

What a sad day for HFCC. I had sought help from Edward Wallish once years ago to set up a medicalRead More school event at HFCC, and he was so professional, so helpful. Now that I read the list of names and recognize individuals being laid off, it is truly a dim day. I hope that other avenues of cost cutting can be utilized without resorting to staff lay offs.

This is very disturbing news. It sounds like a case of throwing out the baby with the bath water.Read More A grants writer, the library director, and all the other valuable human resources. I've read about all the money that the college has lost because of student loan problems. Who was in charge of all that business and wasn't paying attention? Not good.

About two years ago, in anticipation of this looming crisis, the HFCC faculty union took a freeze inRead More cost of living pay raises and a large reduction in overall salaries staged over a few years. The next reduction in overall salaries will occur this coming academic year. In addition to this reduction in salary, the faculty also agreed at that time to restructure benefits in order to save the college a great deal of money, taking on more personal costs to every member. These steps were taken even before the administration of the college and the board of trustees were admitting (or, perhaps, were even aware) of the upcoming crisis. This is not to say that the faculty union will not be giving up more to help out the college, but the Dearborn public should be aware that the faculty of the college have been fighting for the welfare of the college for a long time.

Perhaps they'll recommend fewer Middle Eastern restaurants. Getting tired of the one-theme concept.

Check out the Voters' Guide for the August 6th Primary by clicking on the new and improved websiteRead More link above. As soon as we get some, I will post them.
Rep. George Darany.

"Victory" for Michigan? Perhaps for politicians like Darany and social welfare advocates,Read More but not for Michigan taxpayers! Taxpayers will be saddled with an additional $1 billion a year for yet another costly government entitlement benefit. Medicaid is a failing, costly, and unsustainable entitlement program that politicians and big-government advocates are now adding liabilities to. Politicians like Darany, Ficano, Obama, and now even Gov. Snyder are continuing to bankrupt our failing governments with taxpayers stuck with the bill! What a pitiful "victory" this is Mr. Darany!

So, pregnant women shouldn't be able to receive health care? Prenatal care is EXTREMELY important,Read More and are you ready to see a lot of unassisted home births because women are afraid to wrack up medical debt at the hospital? And should the working poor just be expected to die from cancer, or tetnus? My husband probably suffers from sleep apnea and since he doesn't have insurance, he hasn't seen a doctor in 5 years. Thank God for medicaid. If there's one thing I WANT my tax dollars to go to, it's to helping those who are sick or just needing an annual check up. Preventative medicine is far cheaper than just catastrophic.
Dearborn Taxpayer June 18, 2013 at 10:04 pm
Pregnant women and people caring for children are already eligible for "free" MedicaidRead More health care so we don't need this expansion for them to receive health care. And children in poor families are eligible for health care under another welfare program. This expansion will add nearly 500,000 able-bodied folks in Michigan to Medicaid. The question isn't about people getting "health care" but rather who pays for them to get it.
American Family Planning in Dearborn closed its doors in April.

They must be a Republican group. Between the Republicans and the Pro-Lifers, women have fewer andRead More fewer SAFE choices. I thought this was a FREE country? When our narrow-minded politicians try to force us to bend to their way of thinking, freedom is slowly becoming a thing of the past.

This article is filled with hate, paternalism, inequality, and misogyny. This is notRead More "news." Is this type of hateful material the Patch's agenda? The readers should know so we can make our own choice regarding whether or not to continue to read and contribute.

A "survivor of late term abortion" will be speaking? How about a survivor of a high riskRead More pregnancy who couldn't end the pregnancy to save her own life? Oh....wait. She didn't survive. These people seem to be only concerned about human beings before they're born. After they leave the womb, Republicans (because, let's face it, they're almost always Republicans) are willing to let children go hungry, let their schools crumble, and let crazy people buy guns to kill them in their classrooms. It's called hypocrisy, and they are master practitioners of the art.
