They try to shoe horn you into a loan program that they claim is the only way to get the house. The…Read More reason for this is the loan program they push doesn't require an appraisal so your forced to believe that the price their selling it to you for is a really good one. The problem comes in after your in the home and want to refi in a few years. You order the appraisal and find out you have been sold into an upside down loan. You owe more money than the house is actually worth. Beware of anyone trying to push the Home Path loan program and if u must go with that program as it does offer 100 percent financing but you must insist on an appraisal. This is the only way to protect yourself from getting trapped into an upside down loan. ReMax is known for trying to steer customers to their financing option and their inspector and anyone else they hold sway with. Being well informed is your best option to avoid falling prey to a real estate nightmare.

If that house were to close at $104,000 it raises the market value. It does not mean you are going…Read More to be in debt. This is how market values rise in real estate; otherwise, they would never go up. The market is still a somewhat volitale. We sold our house last year to someone who paid $305,000. The same home was on the market in short sale for $240,000. Yes, that will affect market values when it closes, but it does not mean the 305 buyer paid too much. The market is improving. If you plan on staying at least 5 years or so you will see big gains. It all depends on the economy. It is such a great time to buy a house in Dearborn because the values dropped so dramatically. There will be a rise in home values esecially in Dearborn Hills and similar areas.

The bottom line Maureen is that you can't and shouldn't "trust them!" It's rare to find a…Read More politician who will oppose a tax increase, at least in Dearborn anyway...

The city of Dearborn should step up and do the honorable and ethical thing and pay back the money…Read More they took from the DIA and the Detroit Zoo.
First they propose a library millage of 1 mill to fund the city’s library system; it passes but then they turn around and permanently close Snow Branch Library saying they don't have the funds to support it.
Now, legal or not, they have stolen money the citizens voted to go to the DIA and the Detroit Zoo. What's next?

Yeah, right, Bob. Like that's going to happen. But my question is how do we know they're using…Read More this money for what they legally can? And what happens if we vote in additional millage? Can they still take some of that money up to but not including the current increase? Dearborn Heights wasn't mentioned but I'd sure like to find out what they're using it for.

I would like to know if there is any truth to the rumor that HFCC wants to forgive the…Read More $$$$multi-million debt of students who failed to repay student loans and put the burden of the payoff on Dearborn taxpayers.

I have said this before: I am sick and tired of all these millages. It's just never ending. I,…Read More myself, am having a "budget shortfall" Stop this never ending pocket picking.

Dearborn does have one of the highest millage rates! I also know the Board of Education wants to…Read More have a bond issue for technology infrastructure for the school. We cannot contine to just add $100 here and there to our tax bills. Those of us who do pay taxes are getting hit in every direction. I believe HFCC is a great asset, but have they tried to cut expenses as most business have had to do?

Dearborn Resident - The document you provided is the overall compensation including healthcare and…Read More other benefits. That being said, the $180,000 you refer to is not their salary as you infer. Yes, the faculty are well paid but are not out of line. Yes, the administration is well paid but you get your monies worth as they are putting in 70+ hours per week. I am sure most readers would agree that the average person does not put in that many hours.

All HFCC full-time faculty are required to have master's degrees; more than 40 percent have Ph.D's.…Read More According to the 2010 Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average individual with an advanced degree earns more than eighty thousand a year. And that is before overtime or extra-contractual earnings.
Unfortunately, the "facts" cited by the Dearborn resident are fallacious. Half of the faculty in the English division were hired within the last ten years; even with health care and benefits, they would not come close to breaking 100 thousand. In the last two years, HFCC faculty members have taken a 7 percent pay cut and assumed a sizable percentage of health care costs. BTW, the religious studies department consists of ONLY one full-time faculty member. So it would seem as if HFCC salaries, when accurately reported, are not out-of-line.
Also, you get what you pay for. I've taken classes at other colleges. Wayne County Community College has mostly adjunct instruction, and their nursing program was unaccredited for many years because their pass rate on state boards was lower than 65 percent. How did Wayne County Community College solve this problem? WCCC decided to require a 3.75 GPA to gain admittance to its nursing program. HFCC believes that compassion, as well as academic success, is essential for a good nurse, so the college will accept nursing applicants with a 2.8 average and excellent recommendations. Consistently for decades, HFCC nursing students have a higher than 90 percent pass rate on state boards. Why? HFCC faculty are amazingly dedicated. Check out colleges like Oakland Community College, where teachers don't consistently distribute evaluation forms and adjuncts are rarely evaluated.
It is tragic that 14 valuable administrators and lab technicians lost their jobs. Why? Not only did we overspend on buildings, but a disproportionate number of students failed to complete their classes, perhaps because sadly many graduates from high schools are unprepared for the demands of college. If we must point fingers, it is important to identify the true culprits. Were the faculty in charge of the budget? Hardly! Wouldn't the Board of Trustees have ultimate responsibility? But I believe that pointing fingers is pointless. Let's rally together and support Dearborn's community college so that perhaps some of these valuable individuals like the Director of Admissions (Doug Freed) and the Grant Coordinator (Gail Conte) can be rehired.

Dearborn Resident: One other point, you stated that faculty at HFCC make 20% more than the faculty…Read More at the nearest community college. If that nearest competing college is Wayne County Community College, then it sounds to me like we are getting a bargain. HFCC is certainly more than 20% better than WCCC in reputation, programs, and faculty involvement. I'm willing to pay only 20% more for a far superior faculty and college.

"Victory" for Michigan? Perhaps for politicians like Darany and social welfare advocates,…Read More but not for Michigan taxpayers! Taxpayers will be saddled with an additional $1 billion a year for yet another costly government entitlement benefit. Medicaid is a failing, costly, and unsustainable entitlement program that politicians and big-government advocates are now adding liabilities to. Politicians like Darany, Ficano, Obama, and now even Gov. Snyder are continuing to bankrupt our failing governments with taxpayers stuck with the bill! What a pitiful "victory" this is Mr. Darany!

So, pregnant women shouldn't be able to receive health care? Prenatal care is EXTREMELY important,…Read More and are you ready to see a lot of unassisted home births because women are afraid to wrack up medical debt at the hospital?
And should the working poor just be expected to die from cancer, or tetnus? My husband probably suffers from sleep apnea and since he doesn't have insurance, he hasn't seen a doctor in 5 years.
Thank God for medicaid. If there's one thing I WANT my tax dollars to go to, it's to helping those who are sick or just needing an annual check up. Preventative medicine is far cheaper than just catastrophic.

Pregnant women and people caring for children are already eligible for "free" Medicaid…Read More health care so we don't need this expansion for them to receive health care. And children in poor families are eligible for health care under another welfare program. This expansion will add nearly 500,000 able-bodied folks in Michigan to Medicaid. The question isn't about people getting "health care" but rather who pays for them to get it.
