A wonderful day for all the athletes and community, and great to see the current student award…Read More winners receiving their recognition along with the respect and congratulations they passed on to my father, Sherm Collins, the Legend Award recipient that day. Thanks to the students, Jeff Stassen and Dearborn Recreation Department for making it such a special event for my Dad.. For me, and many others, the only disappointment of the ceremony was a very rude, immediate exit of the entire group of supporters of Gov. Snyder's brother in law, Mr. Kerr as soon as he received his award. It was actually quite shocking, and a real insult to the student athletes receiving their awards after his, along with my father who received his later on also. With all the remarks from the governor and his brother in law regarding great sportsmanship, teamwork, and the importance of putting 'team' in front of the individual 'me' in athletics and life, it was especially disappointing to watch the big group noisily exit the auditorium in the middle of the event. Actually, it showed an incredible lack of respect and awareness from the 'special guest', the highest ranking representative of our state and his associated group; it made me embarrassed for their actions particularly when the rest of the auditorium's attendees were so excited and attentive throughout each award presentation. So in spite of that, a big thanks to the great students and the Dearborn Recreation department for all of their hard work.
