St. Linus Fall Craft Show Set for Weekend

Here's a look at five events happening in and around Dearborn this weekend.

Before heading out with friends and family, take a look at some fun events happening in or around the community.

1. Dearborn Fire Department Open House

The Dearborn Fire Department will host its annual open house to celebrate Fire Prevention Week on Saturday, Oct. 12. The event will take place from noon to 2 p.m. at Fire Station No. 2, 19800 Outer Drive, north of Michigan Avenue.

Guests can check out the department’s fire trucks, see a survival flight helicopter and a demonstration of the Bomb Squad robot, spray a fire hose and take pictures of themselves in firefighter gear. Hot dogs will be provided.

2. John Halaka: Landscapes of Desire

The exhibition features 23 drawings from the series "Landscapes of Desire," created between 2009 and 2013 by the California-based, Palestinian-American artist John Halaka. The metaphorical landscapes were inspired by the ruins of Palestinian villages and homes that have been destroyed since 1948. The display will be held at the Arab American National Museum. An artist's talk is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 11. It is free and open to the public.

3. Stan Barnes and Friends Live in Concert 

Come out and enjoy great music and witness an exhilarating performance that leaves you wanting more. Experience musical excellence in a wholesome, stress-free setting where class and elegance meet in a wonderful array of talent. The concert takes place at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12.

4. Saint Linus Fall Craft Show

The event takes place at 10 a.m. Oct. 12 at St. Linus Church, 6466 N. Evangeline St. in Dearborn Heights. In addition to crafts, there will be a tin can raffle and 50/50 drawings.

5. Meet the Scientist Saturday

Discover science with activities led by scientists and technologists from the hand-on exhibit, "Inspiring Minds: African Americans in Science and Technology" at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit. The event takes place Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. Free with museum entrance.
