Fall Flavor Weekends Begin at Greenfield Village

Old fashioned cooking demonstrations, cider pressing part of Fall Flavor Weekends inside Greenfield Village in September and October.

Savor the aroma of soups simmering, beer brewing, cider pressing and pumpkin fritters frying during Fall Flavor Weekends inside Greenfield Village Sept. 28-29 and Oct. 5-6.

From daily cooking demonstrations taking place inside the village farmhouses, family homes and the plantation to local homemade products for sale at a bustling farmers market, there’s something for every food lover to enjoy.

See first hand how cider is pressed using apples from the village's orchard in Firestone Farm on Saturdays or take a tour of the orchard on Sundays during Fall Flavor Weekends.

Inside the village homes, visitors can get up close as the presenters prepare, bake and preserve based on historic recipes found in books such as Buckeye Cookbook, the Boston Cooking School Cook Book and The Story of Crisco Cookbook.

Some of the dishes featured include chicken pot pie prepared with stuffed cabbage, fricasseed chicken, simmering pork chops and sweet apple cake. The Henry Ford’s Chef Mike Trombley will be giving a family-friendly cooking demonstration alongside his favorite sous chef, daughter Avery using local ingredients on each Sunday inside A Taste of History at noon and 2 p.m.

On Saturdays visit the village pavilion farmers market and choose from a collection of farm-fresh produce, meats, honey, breads and more provided by The Henry Ford’s connection of local producers and growers. Don’t forget to stop by the Village Store during the day for free samples from a variety of Local Roots food growers and producers.

This year, Gleaner Life Insurance Society, a supporting sponsor of Fall Flavor Weekends, will host “Gleaner Day,” on Oct. 5. Guests who bring a donation of at least five nonperishable items to benefit Gleaners Community Food Bank will receive a coupon for a buy one, get one free admission to Greenfield Village, good for that day only.

Meijer food store will also have cooking demonstrations and food sampling in the Greenfield Village plaza during Fall Flavor Weekends.

The event is free with membership or admission to Greenfield Village; tickets are $22 for adults, $21 for seniors (62 and up) and $16 for youth (5-12). Children under five are free.
