Dearborn Shelter Charity Event, Live Comedy and More This Weekend

Here are five things to look out for over the weekend in Dearborn.

Looking for something to do this weekend in Dearborn and surrounding areas? Here are a few ideas.

Friday Night Basketball at the Center:
-Friday night basketball sessions at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center will help kids ages 7-10 to work on shooting, passing, dribbling, and ball-handling, while also being able to enjoy a great game of basketball.

The program is held at the Center on Friday nights from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Jan. 17 to Feb. 28. Cost is $45 for pass holders, $50 for residents, and $60 for non-residents.

Dearborn Shelter Adoption Event Saturday:
-The Dearborn Animal Shelter is holding an adoption event this Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Friends Training Center, 2621 S. Telegraph Rd.

The event will run from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., and both cats and dogs (including kittens and puppies) will be available. All adoptions include sterilization, age-appropriate vaccinations and a microchip for your pet.

The Next Generation Comedy Tour:
- Ahmed Ahmed, known as the father of Middle Eastern comedy, will present "The Next Generation Comedy Tour" this Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Michael A. Guido Theater inside the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center. 

The show will feature up-and-coming comics Sammy Obeid, Eric Schwartz, Raj Sharma, Vincent Oshana and Tehran Soparvas.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 to $30. Click here for tickets and more information.

BDubs Charity Event for Dearborn Shelter:
-The second annual “Drink, Dine, and Help Rescue Animals at the Same Time” charity event for the Dearborn Animal Shelter will be held this Sunday, Jan. 19, at Buffalo Wild Wings, 22216 Michigan Avenue.

From open to close, 20 percent of all purchases accompanied by the attached certificate will be donated to the shelter. At last year's event, the shelter raised $1,397.

Winter Market Returns:
-The Dearborn Farmer’s and Artisan Market is continuing its temporary transformation into a Winter Market this Sunday, Jan. 19, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center.

Visitors will have the chance to sample foods from local restaurants, purchase artisan crafts and foods, and participate in cooking demonstrations offered by the Dorsey Culinary Academy at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.

The market will also feature musical and other performances.
