Anglers Give Children Chance to Fish at Camp Dearborn

Children and families can attend the free fishing tournament and compete to win prizes on Sunday.

Camp Dearborn will host its 17th annual Children’s Fishing Derby, from 8 a.m. to noon on June 9.

Boys and girls between the ages of three and 15 are invited to take part in the free event. The fishing competition will be broken into four age categories: 3-5, 6-8, 9-11, and 12-15. Prizes will be awarded in each age category for both the most fish caught, and the biggest fish caught.

Children must register upon arrival to compete in their age group. All participants should bring their own rod, bucket and bait. The fishing derby is a popular event, and families planning to participate should arrive early.

The 2013 Children’s Fishing Derby is sponsored primarily by Eppinger Manufacturing, the Dearborn Lions Club, Dearborn Police Charities, Dearborn Sausage Co., Eagle Claw and the Times-Herald Newspapers.

Each year many local establishments serve as supporting sponsors including: Impressions Specialty Advertising, Plano Molding, Plastilite, and Uncle Ray’s Potato Chips.

Prizes are sponsored by Children’s Garden, Gander Mountain, Dearborn Federal Savings Bank, Dearborn Recreation & Parks Department/Camp Dearborn, Dearborn Rotary Foundation, In Stock Marketing, Kiernan’s Steak House, Les Stanford Chevrolet, Michigan Sports Person Heritage Conservancy, Norwick Orthodontics, Palace Food Mart, Remote Control Fishing Pole, Talmer Bank and The Fish Market.

Camp Dearborn is owned and operated by the city of Dearborn, but open to the public. It is located at 1700 General Motors Road, in Milford.

Admission to Camp Dearborn is $4 per vehicle for residents of Dearborn and Milford and $6 per vehicle for all others.
