1. Dearborn Cash Mob
The Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce will launch its first cash mob event on Aug. 20.
On the 20th of every month, the chamber will select one business to "mob." At a predetermined time, consumers are encouraged, through social media notices, to show up with cash in hand to support that business by buying its products and services. Each participant is asked to spend a previously agreed upon amount, usually $20.
2. UM-Dearborn Student Housing Ribbon Cutting
As The Union at Dearborn — a new housing complex for University of Michigan-Dearborn students — nears completion, the project partners and members of the Dearborn community are joining together on Aug. 21 at 1:30 p.m. for a ribbon cutting.
The complex is located at 780 Town Center Drive, directly across Evergreen Road from the university campus. The public is invited to attend the event.
3. Drinking in America opens at Henry Ford Community College
Henry Ford Community College's Humanities and Social Science Division and Theatre Arts Department will present award-winning playwright Eric Bogosian’s Drinking in America Aug. 23-25 and 29-31. This production will take place at the the MacKenzie Fine Arts Auditorium. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturdays at 8 p.m. Sunday performances begin at 2 p.m.
4. Music Under the Stars
Come to the Dearborn Hills Golf Course on Aug. 22 to hear the Sun Messengers perform at 7:30 p.m. Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy.
5. Dearborn Farmers Market Special Tuesday
The Dearborn Farmers Market will be open on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. The market is located in West Dearborn, near Michigan Avenue between Mason and Howard streets.
