The council, according to executive director Stella Greene, has provided these services to make the public still has access to art, and that artists have creative outlets, on an ongoing basis.

“The biggest positive aspect of the council for the community is that we help provide so many cultural opportunities through our support,” she said. “Community members can see all kinds of art, and all kinds of performers.”

A 501c-3 foundation that is entirely independent, the council is currently hosting a holiday boutique at the Padzieski Gallery inside the . The sale gives local artists and opportunity to show and sell their wares, while giving art lovers and opportunity to purchase a unique item for their home, or as a gift. Seventy percent of the sale of an item goes to the local artist, 30 percent goes to support the council’s ongoing efforts.

The council also hosts a student art show in conjunction with Dearborn Public Schools; co-sponsors art classes for children ages 4-16; works with the Dearborn Chamber of Commerce to bring art to local businesses; hosts or co-sponsors the Dearborn Homecoming Art Festival; provides limited funding for qualified artists and performers, co-sponsors the Summer Music Festival, and operates the Padzieski Gallery in conjunction with the Dearborn Cultural Arts Division.

How to help: The Dearborn Community Arts Council receives the lion’s share of its funding through donations from individuals, and according to Greene, those donors have been remarkably dedicated in terms of their continuing support.

“Our donors want to make sure that cultural opportunities continue in Dearborn,” she said.

Support for the council is garnered through memberships. These run from $750 lifetime memberships to $20 senior and student memberships. The council also takes in-kind and one-time monetary donations. Greene said to make such donations, donors should email the council or call 313-943-3095.

Checks and membership applications can be sent via mail to the Dearborn Community Arts Council, 15801 Michigan Ave., Dearborn, MI, 48126.
