Golfers Needed for Dearborn Historical Museum Fundraiser

Foursome teams can tee-off at the Dearborn Hills Golf Course on Aug. 5 to benefit the museum.

The Museum Guild of Dearborn's inaugural golf outing is just around the corner and will benefit The Dearborn Historical Museum.

The Guild is looking for foursomes to round out a $100-a-person scramble at 11 a.m. Aug. 5 at the Robert Herndon Dearborn Hills Golf Course. The outing will feature 18 holes of golf with cart, a steak dinner and a two-hour wine and beer open bar, as well as a silent auction and refreshments on the course.

"We have about eight teams signed up right now," event chairman Rick Banes said. "Ideally we would like 18 teams to start one off on every hole."

All profits benefit the museum, which relies primarily on donations and fundraisers to keep its doors opens.

Banes said several area businesses donated items for the silent auction. Prizes include two sets of four tickets to any show at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center, golf packages, sports memorabilia, and restaurant gift certificates.

There will also be prizes for the first place team, longest drive, closest to the pin, and lowest individual score.

Registration forms are available at the museum office located at 915 Brady St., just north of Michigan Avenue; or from Danes by calling 1-313-363-3560. Businesses that would like to sponsor a hole or make a donation may also contact Danes.

Members of the Dearborn Allied War Veterans Council will perform a flag-raising and honor salute prior to the start of the fundraiser.

"Fundraisers like this golf outing are very beneficial to the museum," Danes said. "We're looking forward to a fun day of golf and camaraderie."

Danes said recently the Guild purchased two dehumidifiers for the museum, and also provides funding for museum upkeep and repairs throughout the year. The Guild is also collecting and publishing the third volume of “Dearborn’s Best Stories” later this year.
