Camp Dearborn Announces Labor Day, Fall Events

The fall season will kick off with the Canteen Dance Sept. 2.

Over Labor Day weekend, a live band will once again help campers rock through the last official days of the season at Camp Dearborn, and roll right into fall activities.

The band–still to be announced–will perform from 7:30-10:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 2 at the camp's annual Canteen Dance.

The official camping season traditionally ends with an End of Summer Bash on Labor Day weekend, while the camp office changes gears to the welcome the fall camping crowd.

The Canteen, normally open daily 4–10 p.m., will have special hours for Labor Day begin at 10:30 a.m. through the early evening.

The Labor Day Weekend tent and cabin reservations are expected to be fully booked, but campers can call ahead to reserve a campsite for the following weeks at either of the camp offices: Dearborn Recreation and Parks Department at 313-943-2350, or Milford Camp Office at 248-684-6000.

Here's a look at what to do at Camp Dearborn during the fall season:

  • Swimming will still be available while it's warm, with less crowds!
  • Hayride reservations for groups start Sept. 20
  • Halloween Weekends with family-friendly activities will run Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays Oct. 12-21
  • RV sites, tents and cabins remain open for camping through October.
  • The picnic area with tables and grills will remain open for visitors' use

The City of Dearborn anticipates another full camping season in 2013 as the Camp offices take reservations from this year’s campers. Campers from the 2012 season have until Monday, Sept. 10, to re-register for the same tent and week in 2013 that they occupied this season.

On Monday, Sept. 17, Camp Offices will begin taking new 2013 reservations for residents of Dearborn and Milford. Remaining 2013 campsites will be open to the public beginning Oct. 29.

The camp is open to the public daily 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. Season passes are available for frequent visitors.

Admission at the gate is $4 per car for residents of Dearborn or Milford, and $6 per car for all others.

More information about Camp Dearborn and scheduled events can be found at www.campdearborn.com, or by calling either of the Camp offices.
