Week Ahead in Dearborn Sports: Aug. 29-Sept. 4

As the 2011-12 school year prepares to kick off, so do high school sports. From football to boys tennis and soccer and girls volleyball and golf, there are plenty of games to watch. Here's our top picks for Aug. 29-Sept. 4.

Football: 's football team will host its home opener this week. After a disappointing beginning-of-season , the teams have something to prove on their home turf. Check out the Thunderbirds against Dearborn Heights Robichaud on Friday at 7 p.m.

football will also play Crestwood High at home on Friday at 7 p.m., while will take on Redford Thurston at home on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Soccer: Fordson's boys soccer team will play three games this week. The first will pit them against Caser Chavez High School at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at home. The second home game is against Traverse City Central High at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The final is against Dearborn rival Edsel Ford on Friday at 3:30 p.m., held at Edsel's field.

Dearborn High's boys soccer team also faces several matches on Aug. 29 and 31 against Birmingham Brother Rice and Belleville, respectively. After a successful Saturday at the Dearborn Soccer Invitational on Aug. 27–during which they took home the championship win–the team has proven that they'll be worth watching this fall.

Dearborn High Volleyball: The DHS girls will host a Dearborn High Varsity Invitational on Friday beginning at 9 a.m. Participating schools will include Allen Park, Dearborn High, Erie-Mason, New Boston Huron, Sterling Heights, Warren Mott and Westland John Glenn.
