Three Divine Child High School Alumni Join MLB Teams in Draft

Graduates of Divine Child High School will join the Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox, and New York Mets.

DEARBORN — The Divine Child High School baseball program has a lot to brag about heading into the 2013-2014 season.

Three graduates of the school's sports program were recently drafted to Major League Baseball teams.

Myles Smith, a 2010 graduate, was drafted as the Boston Red Sox 113th pick. The 6 foot, 175-pound pitcher packs a punch with his fastball, changeup and breaking ball.

Patrick Biondi, a 2009 graduate, was also drafted to the New York Mets. The outfielder impressed scouts with his .388 batting average last year.

Finally, Mike Cervenak, a 1994 graduate, was drafted to the Detroit Tigers' minor league team.

A native of Trenton, Cervenak has played for five different Triple-A teams. Last September, Cervenak played for the Czech Republic in the qualifying rounds of the 2013 World Baseball Classic.

Cervenak made his major league debut in 2008 with the Philadelphia Phillies after playing for the University of Michigan. He played in 10 games and went 2-for-13 with an RBI.
