The Week Ahead in Dearborn Sports: Jan. 30-Feb. 5

This week, high school sports in Dearborn takes us to the most heated hockey rivalry in the city, plus several do-not-miss basketball games.

The Mayor's Cup

Dearborn's two hockey teams–Dearborn Unified (comprised of and players) and –will take each other on this Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Mayor's Cup. The game happens at the at 7:20 p.m.

Last year at the same match-up, , taking home a 7-0 score. Dearborn struggled with several inexperienced players, and hopes to come out stronger this weekend on the ice to prove that they can take DC.

The teams already met this season in November, landing the Falcons a 5-4 overtime victory. But DU comes into this weekend riding high on a 10-4 win against Saline High in the Metro League Showcase on Saturday, Jan. 28.

Dearborn-Edsel Hoops

It's a true Friday night hoops rivalry on Feb. 3 when Edsel Ford takes on Dearborn High's boys and girls teams.

Both schools have pulled impressive records this season. The Pioneers' record stands at 8-3 for the boys team with their most recent win against Garden City on Jan. 24. Edsel's boys stand at 5-5 with a loss to in five overtimes on Friday, Jan. 27.

But the girls' teams will be the game to watch on Friday. The Lady Thunderbirds have been on fire this season, and currently lead their division with a 13-1 record. They succeeded where there male counterparts couldn't last Friday, taking home a win against Fordson.

The girls of DHS are nothing to laugh about either, with a close 12-2 record after a win against Berkley on Jan. 24.

Both games take place at Dearborn High, with the girls playing at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m.
