The Week Ahead in Dearborn Sports: Jan. 2-8

The hockey season heats up, while wrestling teams head to tourneys.

Not yet back to school from the holiday break, Dearborn athletes have had little respite from busy winter game schedules during their time off from studies.

The saw , , and face off against other local teams just after Christmas. Meanwhile, the hockey season is nearly halfway through for Dearborn Unified.

Hockey Heats Up

Dearborn Unified will play away games twice this week, starting with Southgate Anderson High School on Wednesday and Notre Dame Prep on Saturday. The games are at 7:30 p.m. and 12:30 p.m., respectively.

The team has had a rough season, with only three wins under their belt thus far. They need to make it through this week before they're playing on home turf again in mid January.

Divine Child's hockey team also plays this week against Grosse Pointe South in Redford. That game takes place Wednesday at 7:45 p.m.

Dearborn, DC Wrestling

The Pioneers wrestling team has two tournaments this week. The first is against Farmington High Quad on Wednesday at 5 p.m.; the second is in Wyandotte on Saturday at 9:15 a.m.

Wyandotte's tournament will be an individual competition.

The team hasn't had a great season, and comes into this week out of the Canton Invitational, which was won by Brighton High School.

Meanwhile, the DC Falcons will compete in the Spartan Classic on Saturday at 10 a.m. The tournament includes varsity wrestlers from all over the Midwest, and takes place at Fitzgerald High School in Warren.
